3 Shar Pei dogs in Nogales, AZ – updated & safe
by Karyn Zoldan on Feb. 14, 2012, under Adopt Me! Adopt Me! Adopt Me!, Animal News, Dogs, Canines, Fun with Fido, Barking EncouragedUpdated: I just received a call from the Santa Cruz County Animal Control in Nogales letting me know that two of the dogs were rescued and will go up for adoption and the third was adopted by a private citizen. So all is well for these three Shar Peis. I spoke to Lt. Jose L. Pena Jr. Animal Care & Control Supervisor who said that 80 percent of the animals here find homes. He said it was never the intention to put these dogs to sleep. It is not the goal of this animal control facility (or any facility) to euthanize the animals. Everyone wants a happy ending.

3 Shar Pei dogs in Nogales, AZ will die on Feb. 15 unless rescued
This is a sad story and I urge anyone who can help — to help.
Three Shar Pei dogs will die on Wednesday – Feb. 15 unless the dogs are adopted by closing. The dogs are currently at Santa Cruz County Animal Control in Nogales, Arizona. The facility is not no-kill. The dogs have been there for 2 or 3 weeks and the facility is overcrowded. The website is not user-friendly as to viewing these dogs.
Apparently, their owner, a woman in her 40s was found dead in her home and the dogs were taken to the Nogales facility. No family came forward to adopt them. The mother Shar Pei is 6 to 8 years old and the two pups – a male & female are 2 years old.

Thanks to the concerned readers of this blog, the Shar Peis have been rescued. I wish that were the case for all the dogs & cats in AZ animal control facilities.
