Are there no regulations on who can haul dogs, and how such hauls are to be conducted? If you really believe the dogs are worth “thousands of dollars” as pro-racing folks claim, wouldn’t you be concerned with their handling? Apparently the folks involved in hauling Freeway/Petey D. weren’t concerned enough to notify anyone that he was missing. And the intake folks at the destination, same thing – why didn’t they notify the owner that his “investment” was unaccounted for?

No, the story of Freeway/Petey D. points out another shortcoming of the greyhound racing industry and their common practices.

I like to connect the dots. The hauling incident in Florida triggered in my mind the hauling catastrophe in Arizona. But thanks to your comment, I now just recalled the Colorado guy who hauled 140+ greyhounds from Tucson Greyhound Park in 2005-2006 and nobody ever saw them again. Devastating, no? Hauling greyhounds seems to be a touchy subject lately.

Thanks for that info. I will try to find that article and link it here. No A/C in Florida? Do you remember some years back when there was still dog racing in Juarez, Mexico?
