Margo
I had somewhere and will try to find the link and post it later that there will NOT be a memorial ceremony for Jeg. I think that's sends a very bad message to not memorialize this dog.

Here's the contact info -- if people want a memorial ceremony I suggest you start making noise.

Tucson - District 8

6401 South Tucson Boulevard
Tucson, AZ 85706

Phone: 520.746.4500
Fax: 520.746.4511

Why did Officer Lankow switch his gear from one patrol cruiser to another, leaving Jeg, his dog partner of almost three years behind? Why did Lankow go on to another call without his ever-present dog partner? Shouldn't he always have his dog partner with him? Was someone else supposed to take care of the dog on a second shift? This case does not make any sense. If it is because officers are allowed to work double shifts and it affects their judgement and memory this badly, none of them should be allowed to do it. A similar story happened a couple of years ago to a Maricopa county east-valley canine officer who died after being left forgotten in a hot vehicle for most of a second shift. His handler officer was fired. RIP to neglected Jeg.

Let's not ever have this happen again. I do see the police dogs in the car all the time; why are they not with their officers every step of the way, maybe the policy needs to be changed so that the dogs are always, always side by side. Everyday when I reach down and pet my dog, I see Jeg's incident in my eyes. I wouldn't leave my dog, I am aware of the heat and cold in Tucson and any other place I go with my dog. Since, I work she is not at my side all day long; but due to health reasons she has given me the emotional back up that I need.
Is there a memorial ceremony for Jeg?

Except for the part about people being killed, I have to agree with comrade fraser. The officer made a tragic mistake. No doubt he will punish himself enough without wishing him ill will in a difficult time.

You're right, Lisa, and I apologize. This story just makes me very angry, and I have bitter feelings towards Tucson right now. But, that's no excuse for my silly, off-topic comments.

I don't know about some of the other people posting off-topic, you sound about five years old, but that poor dog suffered a horrible, painful death. Period. The officer should be fired and charged with animal cruelty.
