In Southern Arizona there are numerous dog breed rescues: pit bull, mutt, afghan hound, akita, basset hound, boston terrier, golden retriever, great Pyrenees, greyhound, keeshond, Doberman, beagle, Catahoula, heeler, Labrador, English springer spaniel, Irish setter, English cocker, Cattle dog, sheepdog, ridgeback, dachshund, boxer, Airedale, Dalmatian, whippet, Xolo. Did I forget any?

10 ways to celebrate National Dog Day
–Take your dog for a good long walk.
–Teach your dog a new trick.
–Take your dog to the pet store or somewhere for a special outing.
–Host your own impromptu meet & greet with a few friends so the dogs can socialize.
–Ask your meet & greet friends to bring some extra cans of dog food or kibble and donate to a shelter.
–Consider adopting another dog from a local shelter or PACC.
–Groom your dog – cut toenails, clean ears, give a loving massage or tummy rub.
–If hot, let your dog splash in their own wading pool.
–Take a luxuriant nap with your dog.
–Curl up with the dog and watch a dog movie.
–In Tucson: Come to Greyt Tales – (Karyn Zoldan, who is one of eight storytellers, will tell a 5-minute story about inter-species communication and her first greyhound Painter.) Bring your well-behaved dogs of any breed who weigh more than 50 pounds (no small dogs please).
