Tucson Tails: 12 y.o. male cat needs a home

I need a forever home

I need a forever home

Homer is a playful older cat whose owner had him as a kitten but the owner died. Homer weighs about 12 pounds, is neutered, has claws, has never been around other cats, avoids kids and dogs.

Homer may need to be an only cat but the experts will need to make that call.

The adopter’s out-of-town family cannot keep Homer because they are allergic. However, they are committed to finding him a good home.

The family is uncertain of Homer’s vaccination status but will bring him up to date and have him FELV/FIV combo tested prior to placing him with anyone. They are desperately seeking placement ASAP.

We Save Kitties at Risk (WSKR) would love to help the family during this difficult time and give them peace of mind that Homer is well cared for. Please call 520-395-5474 or email info@wskr.org now if you would like to foster or adopt Homer! Homer needs a new home as soon as possible.

Horse rescue - sponsor me

Left in the desert to die

There is so much need for local horse rescues. Equine Voices & Sanctuary located near Green Valley saves PMU horses (used to make premarin from pregnant mare urine) as well as horses from other abusive situations.

April 26 fundraiser – Chico’s at the Park Place Mall location is giving 10% of all sales made between 9 am – 1 pm to Equine Voices. Coffee and donuts will also be served. Chico’s has fabulous fashions and good sales.

Diamond Rio (pictured) is a sweet, handsome 10-year-old who was used as a drug smuggling horse and was left to die in the desert when his job was done. He was found by livestock officers and came to Equine Voices in January 2009. The smugglers left Diamond Rio permanently injured; he will be lame for the rest of his life. He cannot be ridden, but this wonderful horse would make a great addition to a special family. View these page if you would like to adopt or sponsor Diamond Rio (or many other horses).

For only $10/month, you can help “Gulliver” (everyone’s favorite Clydesdale) spread the word about the plight of the foals bred for the PMU industry by joining the “Gulliver Fan Club.”

Check out Gulliver’s Wishlist on Amazon.

Stay in the loop with the Equine Voices blog.

Now for the gruesome topic of horse slaughter. The Valley Meat Company in Roswell, New Mexico has been USDA approved to do just that. Previously there was a U.S. ban on horse slaughter but that was lifted in 2011. Robert Redford is speaking out against horse slaughter. What do you think? Horse meat is perceived as gourmet in parts of Europe and Asia.

Disturbing alert: Lastly, Tucson Tails viewed this video about a month ago and cannot get this image out of my mind where a crazy spiteful man shoots his trusting horse in the face, his way of saying @#!% you to animal activists. Shocking! Sign the petition to demand that NM Governor Susana Martinez take action against him. (has link to video)

Save Tucson Greyhound/Lab Mix – Dies – April 26

Save a life, foster a dog

Let’s be friends!

Update: Tiger didn’t die on April 26 but it can be any day now. Keep trying to find a foster or adoption. The fee is only $15.  There are too many greyhound “mixes” here. When dogs leave the dog track and go to RESCUE groups, dogs are immediately spayed or neutered. How do they fall through the cracks?

Tiger needs your help. He is a strong 54.5 pounds, approx. 3 years old, and neutered. He was relinquished by the wife after her husband died. He gets along okay with male dogs but a big strapping female is more his style. He has not shown a playful side yet, since his owner passed away Tiger has been sad and stressed.

The situation at PACC is also stressful and Tiger is not doing well there. He lunges at people while in his kennel but is fine when not in the kennel and enjoys going for walks.

If you can help or want to meet Tiger, call Rachel to save 520-243-5987 OR 520-243-5936 or contact Tucson Cold Wet Noses.

PACC is located at 4000 N. Silverbell Road @ Sweetwater – opens at noon. The fee is only $15.  Don’t delay!

Tucson Tails: Urgent – 10 year old Lab Mix Dogs

Monday, April 22nd, 2013
Help me, please

Help me, please

This is so sad.  URGENT: These two 10 year old Lab mix siblings — TANNER and RED — need to get out of PACC (Pima Animal Care) now! They came in as strays.

They are getting sick and there’s no room in sick bay for large dogs. This is heartbreaking and unfortunately, it happens all too often.

In this case a shady yard and some nourishment and water is far better than death. Tucson Tails will buy the first bag of dog food.

Red 430562 Lab Mix M 10 yr 82 4/12/2013 age, masses.

Tanner 430563 Lab Mix M 10 yr 82 4/12/2013 age inflammed ear, masses on body.

Help me too, please

These two seniors should be in a home together with nice soft beds and lots of TLC. These wonderful dogs need to see a veterinarian to see what treatment might be needed.

Both are beginning to show signs of URI (upper respiratory illness) There is some diarrhea in the kennel. Often a good quality food does wonders for seniors. TLC given by their furr-ever home or by a foster home helps greatly too. It’s stressful at PACC.

Foster needed now or Special Needs Adoption – urgent – please circulate widely.

Marana good neighbors rescue neglected dog – update

Monday, April 22nd, 2013
Looking for love?

Looking for love?

Update:  Honey Bear is still here and Marlene cannot keep her due to living arrangement. Honey Bear is doing very well and enjoys home life. Please, if you know anyone who might be interested contact mafischer4@gmail.com ASAP.

Some good neighbors in Marana rescued Honey Bear from another neighbor who had neglected the dog and left her outside all the time, winter and summer.

These good neighbors found Honey Bear listless, dehydrated, and without water. The dog’s owner gave up his rights to care for the dog. The neighbors took Honey Bear to the vet who provided fluids and some stomach medications.

Honey Bear has now had a bath and been groomed. She likes being indoors and is house trained. She is eating better and loves to go for walks.

Honey Bear is perhaps around 3 years young and is spayed. She could be part German Shepherd, part Golden Retriever and maybe some Chow.

She might be good with well behaved kids.   Honey Bear is a dominate female.

There you have it — Honey Bear needs a good home, the right home where she will be loved and taken care of.

Please email mafischer4@gmail.com if you can help. Thank you

 Mario – #747416 – 11 Years Old – Siamese – Male

Mischievous Mario can always put a smile on your face. This big comical kitty is packed with personality and attitude. As a special guest in staff offices at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona, Mario insists on being the center of attention and will steal your seat and give you a stare down whenever the opportunity arises. Surrendered when a family member suffered from allergies, Mario is now hoping to find a cozy place to retire in style. This sassy Siamese would do best in a stable, cat-free, all-adult home. He prefers to have his humans all to himself! If you could be the special person to make Mario’s golden years bright, please ask to visit him at the main shelter of the HSSA. One look in those blue eyes and you’ll be smitten!

Tucson Cuddle Dog Need Foster Home Now

Cuddle bug seeks foster home

Cuddle bug seeks foster home

There is an immediate foster home needed for this young dog named Penelope Please no cats or small dogs! If you are interested in fostering, contact Tucson Cold Wet Noses/attn Terri Goddard. Penelope is at High Risk if a new foster home is not found immediately.

Aside from the no cats or small dogs, Penelope is very sweet and loving with people. She likes to sit in your lap and cuddle in bed. She would be a marvelous pet for someone who has no other animals, or at least no cats and some savvy with slowly introducing her to other dogs, but not small dogs.

Penelope had a bath last night with medicated shampoo for itchy skin; and although she did not enjoy being pulled into the shower stall, she responded well. She LOVED being groomed. I think because the brushing felt good to her itchy skin.

Penelope also loves going for walks around the neighborhood and enjoyed running part of the way. Except for her attitude to cats and small dogs, she is well behaved.

Penelope was seen by Dr. Laton at Twin Peaks Veterinary Center. Penelope has not been spayed yet and is in heat. She has a bit of a stuffy nose, but that is not a concern as much as her extreme itching. The doctor says that it’s allergies. She tested negative for mites. She does have a yeast infection, but apparently the underlying cause of the yeast infection is the allergies, which could be either environmental or food related.  Dr. Layton said she was healthy enough to be spayed right away.

So here’s a sweet dog that would do well as an only dog or with the right introduction to bigger dogs. Penelope sounds like a cuddle bug that would make you get up off the couch and take the both of you for walks or runs.

Is the right person or family out there willing to give Penelope a chance? A chance to live, otherwise her chances are not so good. Please contact Cold Wet Noses immediately to help Penelope.
