During the month of September, Beading Divas to the Rescue is honored to be selling bracelets for Southern Arizona Greyhound Adoption‘s Jackie’s Fund for Injured Greyhounds.
The seven original Beading Divas are all greyhound adopters so this cause has special meaning to us.
Jackie’s Fund for Injured Greyhounds was established to pay for extraordinary veterinary costs incurred by race dogs who suffer from career-ending injuries like broken legs and broken hocks. These kinds of injuries range from $2,500 to $4,000 or more with follow up care. That is a big chunk of money for a struggling non-profit organization.
In the past two months, SA Greys has helped at least three retired racers who have suffered career ending broken legs.
Also earlier in the month a senior greyhound with unreadable tattoos was found by a good Samaritan on the northwest part of town. The dog — who is probably around 10 or 11 was near death with low pulse and low electrolytes. He (dubbed Parker) weighed 44 pounds when he should weigh around 70. Parker spent multiple nights in the ICU. He has since gained 12 pounds, wags his tail, and is one courageous hound.
In other words — no greyhounds are left behind. Jackie’s Fund ensures that dogs that need care prior to adoption — get that care beyond the usual spay/neuter, dental, heart-worm test/preventatives, fecal, microchip, etc.
So buy a bracelet or three. Bracelets are hand-crafted, made with donated beads, once size fits most (coiled memory wire), and all come with a paw charm. Bracelets cost $20/each and every penny goes to the greyhounds. Bracelets make awesome gifts because not only are they beautiful but are meaningful as well. If bling is not your thing, please consider making a donation directly.
