Power to the anti animal cruelty people who started this petition on Change.org. They were hoping for 20,000 signatures, then 50,000 signatures, then 75,000 signatures and now they want 100,000 signatures!
I just signed and only 2,984 signatures are needed.
The problem is the “free to a good home” pet category on Craig’s List.
What qualifies a good home? It’s a crap shoot. Perhaps there are some good homes out there but also sick, deranged, cruel people who are looking for free pets to use as dog fighting bait, target practice, and worse. Yeah, worse.
Take Puppy Doe, for instance.
His person gave him up on Craig’s List in Quincy, MA because a breed specific policy was initiated in her apartment complex.
But what happened to Puppy Doe? Let’s just say that Puppy Doe’s injuries were so severe that she had to be euthanized. She had been starved, burned, stabbed, and limbs pulled from her joints in what’s been described as a “medieval” style torture.
This makes my heart hurt.
Before the stupid breed specific policy, she was a cute lovable pet and her name was Kiiya.
According to Change.org since this horrendous incident — there have been no warnings whatsoever on the Pets section about the dangers of posting these re-homing ads.
Just the chance that one more dog or cat can suffer like Kiiya is too much to bear.
A few years ago, Craig’s List banned their erotic services section because a woman got killed. What about the animals?
Re-homing of animals should only be posted on Craig’s List by vetted shelters and rescue groups.
Please sign the petition and pass it on to your fellow animal lovers. Please educate pet owners in your neighborhood about not putting these kinds of “free to a good home” ads on Craig’s List.
Here are other animal abusers who found their victims on Craig’s List:
Lots of things are free on Craig’s List; pets should not be one of them.
