Kachina suffered terrible abuse
Once a month Beading Divas to the Rescue chooses an animal charity to raise funds for a month. This month — November 2012 — we’re raising money for Equine Voices Rescue & Sanctuary.
The Amado, Ariz.-based horse rescue does amazing things to help abused horses who spend their lives on the pee line (peeing into a cup) in order to make the drug Premarin (pregnant mares urine), an example of big pharma at its worst. You can read about that disgusting slave-i-tude. Equine Voices also rescues horses who have been mistreated by their owners (see Kachina’s story below) and from horses left in the desert especially horses used for drug runs.
Unlike dogs and cats, horses eat a lot of hay. And the cost of hay is huge.
Not only can you buy a bracelet ($20) or three. However, if bling are not your thing, here’s a wishlist of what Equine Voices needs:

You don’t have to be a horse person to appreciate this beautiful setting and these majestic rescued horses. I went last year and hope to attend again this year. While there you can:

Meet the amazing Gulliver and find out about his journey from the North Dakota hills to the Southern Arizona desert. It was because of Gulliver that Equine Voices began.

(Photo: Kachina – Kachina is a victim of horse abuse. Her owner decided to punish Kachina when she would not load in the trailer.
He and his 13 year old daughter chained Kachina behind their truck and decided to drag her into the desert and leave her to die, but not before they beat her, while lying on the ground, chained, with a PVC pipe.
A concerned citizen witnessed the dragging and contacted 911. Thankfully they quickly responded, however, the officer had to draw his weapon in order to make them stop the beating. The owner was arrested and charged with animal cruelty, however, was found NOT guilty. His daughter, due to her age, didn’t go to court.
Today, Kachina lives at the sanctuary with Gulliver and the herd, and educated the public about abuse and what we can do to stop this horrible cycle. She assists in raising the level of consciousness for ALL living things.
There are so many sad horses stories here and Kachina is among the lucky ones.)
