No Kill Pima County – May 28

There is less than a 50% save rate at Pima Animal Care Center (PACC). Can Tucson do better? You bet. But it takes a community working together to attract more foster homes, more hands-on programs,  services, education, outreach, and communication.

No-Kill Pima County is looking for a few good men and women who are committed to making Pima County a better place for companion cats & dogs. Is that you?

Please come to the next meeting to see where you fit in. The No-Kill equation works in many cities like ours. Tucson’s animals needs you.

Don’t let me be destroyed

Update: Archie was rescued by Tucson Cold Wet Noses! I saw that on Facebook at around 7 pm last night. Big sigh of relief. Although I also saw on Facebook that 28 cats were killed due to UTI. Is that not treatable? Please consider making a donation to Tucson Cold Wet Noses and/or In the Arms of Angels…both dog rescues save so many dogs in the 11th hour.

Archie must be out of Pima Animal Care Center (PACC / the pound) by Friday September 21 at 7 PM sharp or will be destroyed.  

Archie is a quiet dog who keeps to himself mostly. He has gotten along or put up with his kennel mates, some of which have been a bit rambunctious and some whom he has been reluctant to eat with. Archie will do well in a household with less dogs. He will do well in a quieter environment, even an apartment.

Tucson Cold Wet Noses will pull him with a foster home. He’s a cute fellow.

Also Archie can be rescued by any person willing to save his life and provide a loving home by calling Rachel at PACC at 520-243-5987 or 520-243-5936.

As I was shutting off my computer I saw Archie’s sweet face on Facebook. My question to PACC is: Why is Archie being put down? He doesn’t appear to be sick although that’s not a reason to put down a dog either. He doesn’t appear to be a dangerous dog? Why is Archie’s number up at such a tender age of 2 years old?

What is so wrong with our Tucson community that we allow this to happen?

Tonight I went to my first PACC Advisory Board meeting. Like most Board meetings, it was rote and sterile. I didn’t know what to expect but imagine I will be more verbal in future meetings. I don’t think they announced how many dogs were put down (destroyed) since the last meeting. I will ask that question next time. I think everyone in that room and beyond has a right to know since we pay taxes to Pima County.  (Your property tax bills are due 10-1-12.)

Last Sunday I went to a meeting for No Kill Pima County. That has a nice welcome ring to it. They gave some startling figures compiled from PACC public record requests. PACC destroys one animal every 12 minutes. Think about that. Don’t let Archie be destroyed!
