Pet Supplies Recall: First aid kits for dogs and horses

Alcohol prep pads and iodine prep pads in some pet supply first aid kits are being recalled because of potential bacterial contamination and infection.

The products were manufactured by H&P Industries Inc and the Triad Group and sold by Creative Pet Products, Inc. and MAI/Genesis (Veterinary Concepts).

Alcohol prep pads – Kits affected:
10140 Horse Aid™ Kit
10145 Sporting Dog Kit
10148 Sporting Dog II Kit
10151 K9 First Aid Police & Military Kit
Brands: Triad or NovaPlus
All Lot Numbers

Iodine prep pads – Kits affected:
10140 Horse Aid™ Kit
10145 Sporting Dog Kit
10148 Sporting Dog II Kit
Brands: Triad or H&P Industries
Lot Numbers starting with 8, 9, 0, 1

The kits were distributed in the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, Taiwan and Costa Rica. Some of them were marketed for police and military canine units.

Retail pharmacies were alerted first in Jan. 2011: Alcohol prep pads, alcohol swabs, and alcohol swabsticks are used to disinfect prior to an injection. They were distributed nationwide to retail pharmacies and are packaged in individual packets and sold in retail pharmacies in a box of 100 packets. The affected Alcohol Prep Pads, Alcohol Swabs and Alcohol Swabsticks can be identified by either “Triad Group,” listed as the manufacturer, or the products are manufactured for a third party and use the names listed below in their packaging: Cardinal Health, PSS Select, VersaPro, Boca/ Ultilet, Moore Medical, Walgreens, CVS, Conzellin.

These prep pads are also part of numerous products under many labels used by hospitals and doctors.
