Today marks the 15th birthday of Petfinder.com, the largest online database of adoptable pets.
March 15, 2011 is Petfinder’s Adopt the Internet Day. In honor of Petfinder’s 15th birthday, everyone is encouraged to pledge to spread the word online about adoptable pets.
In 15 years Petfinder has been responsible for more than 17 million adoptions!
Because of Petfinder.com 170,000 pets are now adopted every month, the virtual home of 321,242 adoptable pets from 13,452 adoption groups.
Rescues groups that don’t have their own websites can use Pefinder to list their dogs and cats. Rescue groups who do have their own websites still can use Petfinder to broaden their audience as it’s zip code friendly.
Petfinder was started by two people who had computer and graphic design skills and a love for animals. They wanted to make a difference and they have in a really big way, beyond their wildest dreams, I would think.
Having been a greyhound adopter since 1998, I have seen the pet products niche grow by leaps and bounds. There’s no doubt in my mind that the successful presence of Petfinder is responsible for much of that growth.
