3233 E. Speedway, Tucson
When: Saturday, Oct. 27  (National Pit Bull Awareness Day) at 10 a.m.
How: By invitation only
For more information on how to be a part of this exclusive event, email GTPIfilm@gmail.com with “Tucson” in the subject line.

After the film, there will be a no-host gathering at the Red Garter Bar & Grill, at 3143 East Speedway Boulevard – to raffle the exciting prizes, as well as socialize with other dog lovers and celebrate National Pit Bull Awareness Day.

Sometimes the words “pit bull” sends fear into all those who hear or read it. Wonder when that changed because prior to that the Pit Bull symbolized courage and loyalty and was known as the “Nanny Dog” for their love and affection toward children.

Breed specific legislation or BSL may target 75 dog breeds.

The documentary hopes to uncover the truth behind the misleading information of the most misunderstood dog…the Pit Bull. Do we have a dangerous dog breed problem or just dangerous laws targeting dogs?

All attendees will have to complete a questionnaire regarding their experience. Attendance is by invite only.

Tucson: Pit n’ Proud, Pit Bull Advocacy

Every month Beading Divas to the Rescue chooses a different animal charity to sell bracelets for. I have been remiss in mentioning the August group – Pit n’ Proud.

Pit n’ Proud is a Tucson based Pit Bull and other bully breed advocacy group. Pit Bulls need all the advocacy they can get. According to their website, they work to restore the reputation of America’s dog.

Pit n’ Proud is dedicated to increasing the acceptance of the America Pit Bull Terrier and related breeds as loving family and capable working dogs through education, training, and promotion of responsible ownership. Pit n’ Proud supports rescue efforts and will work to fight breed-specific legislation and improve the image of bully breeds in our community.

Pit n’ Proud has their work cut out for them. I applaud their efforts. Like any dog, a well-trained dog is a good dog. Pit n’ Proud strives to bring out the best in dog owners, who in turn bring out the best in their dogs. Pit n’ Proud Ambass-a-Dogs are a labor of love, and a product of a wonderful partnership between a dedicated owner and their dog.

Pit Bull advocacy is a work in progress.

On October 20, Pit n’ Proud, Adopt-a-Bull, and In the Arms of Angels are hosting PITBULOOZA, a celebration of responsible dog ownership, at Brandi Fenton Park. Mark your calendars and if you want to be a sponsor or a vendor, check out the web page.

And now for some bling…

One-of-a-kind beaded bracelets cost $20/each and the entire amount of every sale goes to the dogs. If you are purchasing by check, make it payable to Pit n’ Proud. You can buy bracelets locally or online (add $5.50 for S&H).
