Tucson adoptable pets – Shepherd mix, Chi-Schipperke, cats

Best house guest ever

Best house guest ever

Here are some dogs & cats available for adoption in Tucson. Do not buy pets from backyard breeders; they are one of the reasons we have so many unwanted animals.  Those are the folks who post signs on street corners and Craig’s List to buy pups…boxers, pit bulls, bichons, and more. Reputable breeders don’t advertise on street corners and adoption groups/rescue groups/shelters will always identify themselves as such. There are many wonderful animals looking for good homes. Please consider one of these:

HUMANE SOCIETY SOUTHERN ARIZONA

Foxy – #732377 – 1.5 Years Old – Shepherd Mix – Female

Talk about a rough start!  Foxy was found limping through rural farmland with a punctured eye, visible ribs, tapeworms and a raging case of tick fever and Valley Fever. It was the peak of summer and Foxy was emaciated, thirsty and exhausted.

Thankfully someone discovered Foxy and delivered her to the HSSA, where she underwent surgery to remove her dead eye and correct the painful condition causing lameness in her hip. After months of foster care, physical therapy and medicine, Foxy is looking and feeling 100% better. Her foster guardian has taken in countless animals over the years and beams that Foxy is the best guest she has ever had.

This appreciative pup is extremely easygoing and has impeccable manners. Now all she wants is a permanent place to call home. Although she will need continued treatment for her Valley Fever and tick Fever, Foxy’s unyielding loyalty is well worth the extra investment. If you would like to meet this very special hidden gem, please call (520)327-6088 to schedule an appointment. You’ll be glad you did!

Emmet – #740633 – 10 Weeks Old – Domestic Short Hair – Male

Meet Emmet, one of the first kittens to become available for adoption since the quarantine for Feline Calicivirus at the HSSA. Emmet is a purrrfectly healthy and happy kitten who grew up as a newborn thanks to the kindness of a homeless person who fed him milk and fast food. Wanting to give the kitten the best chance at a happy life, Emmet’s friend surrendered him to HSSA. This tough little survivor is now available at the La Encantada PAWSH adoption center. He is packed with personality and would absolutely love a feline sibling or two who equally enjoy wresting.

COLD WET NOSES

I’m Skeeter! I love to be cuddled and loved as much as possible. My foster mom believes I am a Chihuahua /Schipperke mix and maybe other things. I am a boy, about 4 years old and weigh about 17 lbs. My foster mom rescued me from PACC a few months ago. Look for my name on the list and read all about me.

Lilac – #740693 – 6 Months Old – Lop Rabbit – Neutered Male

Little Lilac has big dreams for the holiday season. He hopes to be hopping around his very own place with warm hugs and crunchy carrots galore. Discovered on the playground of an elementary school, some young children were delighted to find him during recess and brought him back to class with beaming smiles. Lilac was obviously someone’s companion, since he didn’t mind the way his new friends held him, rocked him back and forth and showed him off to the teacher. Once inside, parched Lilac drank loads of water and was later delivered to the Humane Society of Southern Arizona to find a family for keeps. This gentle little rabbit is very easygoing and welcomes attention with curiosity and a craving for snacks. If you could offer him a carefree life, please visit lovable Lilac today at the HSSA’s Park Place PAWSH center.

Sheva – #738707 – 3 Years Old – Hound Mix – Male

Sheva needs a permanent family that will love him just the way he is. This handsome hound likes to be near people and could use some stability and consistency to let him know that he’s home to stay. Adopted from PACC, Sheva was a great companion but had slight separation anxiety. When his person left, Sheva would sit by the door and scratch. However, he loves other dogs and might benefit from the company of a four-legged playmate to help him relax and have fun. Sheva is house trained, great with children of all ages and likes to shadow his favorite people around the house. He just needs someone who can teach him the ropes, guide him to success and give him enough time to make him feel like he finally belongs. Could you be his dream come true?

I'm your sweetheart

I’m your sweetheart

PACC

Chica # 410154 is a cattle dog mix love bug. She weighs about 50 pounds. Her owners turned her in as they were unable to care for her in the best way. Her notes say she is good with people, loves to play, is a great dog both in the house and out,  housebroken, gets along with other dogs but no so much with cats. She is a sweetheart and she is deaf.

Check out this fun holiday walk event on Saturday, Dec. 8 at Purple Heart Park located at 10050 E. Rita Ranch Road from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. the a pet adoption event at PETCO on Old Spanish Trail.

ready for love

Hardy har har

Hardy – #713082 – 4 Years Old – Australian Shepherd Mix – Male
Handsome Hardy just wants to be with you.  Surrendered for desperately trying to get inside, Hardy needs an indoor lifestyle where he can spend quality time with his favorite people.  A terrifically well-adjusted companion, Hardy has experience with older kids, dogs and even cats.  He is courteous, house trained and excellent on a leash.  If you could give this affectionate Aussie the chance to be a central part of your family, please visit him today at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona.

Tucson cat wants you

Clean my litter box!

Bailey – #716075 – 2 Years Old – Domestic Short Hair – Male
Bailey is having a bit of an identity crisis.  He used to be a feral cat but recently discovered that humans make terrific friends.  Saved from the streets when a kind animal lover saw him limping around with an injured paw, Bailey was fixed up at the Humane Society and let everyone know that he would prefer to be a pampered lap cat instead of a lone ranger.  When you first greet Bailey, he will immediately impress you by climbing on your shoulders, brushing his cheeks against yours and gently making happy paws while filling your ears with a soothing purr.  How he ever managed without his very own human is an utter mystery.  But whoever takes this delightful boy home will have a fluffy shadow following them around for many years to come.  Won’t you offer Bailey the plush indoor life of his dreams?  Visit him today at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona!

WEE CARE COMPANION ANIMAL SHELTER
Yuna is a very pretty 2 yr. old tortoise shell female who was taken from PACC in July. She is spayed, indoor-litter trained and up to date with her shots. Yuna is pretty capable of having fun, she can cackle to birds, and open cabinets.  Once she knows you, she likes to be petted. She is looking for a charming a new owner to give her a chance. Could it be you?

Wee Care Companion Animal Shelter is a new shelter which provides temporary, long and short term shelter and care and, at times, provides foster placement for those companion animals not yet ready for adoption.  As adoption partners with Pima Animal Care Center, Wee Care Animal Shelter provides some relief to the many thousands of animals euthanized because of lack of space.  Marina Paredes, Wee Care Companion Animal Shelter, (520) 292-0270   (unable to save the image as jpeg)

Tucson Pointer mix seeks forever home

Yin seeks Yang

Yin is a 10 mos. old Pointer mix. She gets along well with other dogs and cats (stays clear of the cats). She loves her walks and needs some guidance to grow into a confident dog. She is house trained and eats and sleeps in a crate. She is gentle with children, spayed, healthy,  micro-chipped, and up to date on vaccines. Includes one free visit with behaviorist. Is there a yang out there for this Yin?

Cold Wet Noses puppy

I'm the Puppy Love you need

Sonny is a fun-loving very active 8 month 35 pound Terrier mix puppy. Enjoys playing with other dogs, and his toys, likes the water, he is crate trained, do not know about cats or kids. Suggest he goes to a family with older kids as he is very hyper. Would love a jogging/walking buddy, going to doggie park.  Sonny is looking for a family that can be active with him. He loves to be near you his people and knows some basic commands. Sonny will be at the Arizona Animal Fair this Saturday and he’s looking forward to meeting you at the Cold Wet Noses tent.

THE ANIMAL LEAGUE OF GREEN VALLEY

Green Valley dog needs home

Take me home!

Jingle – 2-year-old, tan and white Heeler/Pointer mix female
Although they’re calling Jingle a Red Heeler mix, there must be Pointer genes mixed in too since she seems to enjoy chasing chickens and cats – not a behavior that endeared her to recent rescuers! Aside from that, Jingle was a loving and playful girl who “doesn’t know she’s a big dog.” Well, she’s not all THAT big – at only 44 pounds – but every ounce is totally enthusiastic, eager, and yearning to be a vital part of your life. Jingle gets along fine with dogs her size, but in her passion for play, she tends to be a bit rough on the smaller ones, so if you have another canine her size, they would probably be best friends. Since Jingle lived outside most of the time, she will most likely need some lessons in good house behavior, but she has the smarts to learn.

Sabrina – 5-year-old Siamese and Oriental Tabby mix female
Sabrina and her sister, Jasmine, lived with their family almost all of their lives. Sad to say, however, their move to a new home didn’t include these two sweet kitties and were brought to TALGV at the 11th hour. Sabrina is a beautiful, tan and white Siamese and Oriental Tabby mix with white paws, and although not a “lap cat” in the true sense of the word, she does like to lie next to you or by your feet to let you know that she’s around. She loves playing with toys, sleeping anywhere you let her and she’s pretty much a no sweat kind of girl. Her people said that she is a “one person” cat (but she does adore her sister and would love to stay with her for a combo adoption fee), so here’s hoping that one special person is right around the corner!

GREYHOUND ADOPTION LEAGUE (GAL)

Two greyhounds must find a home together. They are like salt & pepper, bread & butter, etc. They have lived together for a long time and their adopter can no longer care for them. Simone is 6 and Spencer is 9 years young. They are looking for a forever home with a big heart open to both of them. Simone & Spencer will be forever grateful.

COLD WET NOSES

Tucson chocolate labrador

Look at my ears!

Meet Suzie. She is a chocolate lab mix, about a year old, with lots of personality. She is great on leash and off, great with other dogs and kids. She’s been around horses and goats too! She’s a young playful dog, who will grow up to be a medium to large sized pet. She is crate trained and potty trained too, and trustworthy in the house.

13 year old papillon needs home

Who can resist me?

Meet Meiko, a 7 year old , 13 pound male papillon who is well reserved but full of joy to greet you in your return home. He does well with other dogs, but prefers to sit by your side then in the company of another dog. I would suggest a home without small children because of his age and small size. He enjoys softer foods as he just had a full dental and lost some teeth in the process but is a healthy eater even with the loss of some of his teeth, Meiko is a very well behaved and a well mannered dog to snuggle up next to you on the couch. Meiko has plenty of life left and just wants a family to share it with. Meikos adoption fee is $150. He is neutered, up to date on all his shots, microchipped and has had a complete dental.

SOUTHERN ARIZONA BEAGLE RESCUE

Princess lived in New Mexico, became pregnant, and was abandoned. Things looked pretty grim. Southern Arizona Beagle Rescue brought her to Tucson, where she could have her pups in comfort.

She came to her foster home on May 13, expecting to have some rest before conceiving but four hours later, began to give birth on that day and the early morning hours of May 14.

Princess gave birth to seven pups

4 females – Daisy, Ginger, Punkin, and Sadie
3 males – Beau, Rocky, and Turbo

Rocky says: Foster to adopt me!

These pups will be available for the foster to adopt program around the third week of July. Princess is spayed and available for adoption; she is 1 to 2 years old.

She is great with adults, children, dogs and cats. She is fully house trained, quiet, and very laid back. All Princess wants to do is lie in the sun, have food to eat, and a warm place to sleep. These are basic needs for a princess who likes to cuddle too.

The Southern Arizona Beagle Rescue is looking for a few good homes for Princess, her pups, and all the other beagles needing homes…forever homes.

Blue Eyes – 699250
6 Years Old – Siamese Mix – Male

Tucson cat needs forever home now

Blue Eyes purrs: Adopt me!

“Why, hello there!” Blue Eyes wasn’t expecting company. You see, this sweet boy has, sadly, been waiting since the beginning of February to find a home. But it’s not for lack of trying! As the official welcome committee at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona’s cat room, Blue Eyes greets every visitor he meets with a gentle head butt and a tour of his digs. Blue Eyes takes pleasure in all the simple things in life, like sunbathing, swatting around cat toys, and holding out hope for that perfect person to finally come along. This happy cat knows that there are so many wonderful experiences waiting for him. Could your unconditional love be one of them? Watch Blue Eyes’ video.

Marilyn – 697766
2 Years Old – Pit Bull Mix – Female

Tucson loveable pitbull needs forever home

Marilyn says: Let's rock & roll in my forever home

“Marilyn rocks!” That seems to be the general consensus around the Humane Society of Southern Arizona. This lovely and undemanding dog is ready to be the best (and most beautiful!) buddy you’ve ever had. Found as a stray with a painful infection, Marilyn has made a full recovery and now feels like there’s nothing she can’t do! With a motherly sense of devotion and kind heartedness, Marilyn greets everyone with a gentle smile and a softly wagging tail. She also gives the world’s best hugs! If you could offer this elegant lady the comfortable home she deserves after surviving life on the streets, please visit Marilyn soon at the HSSA! Watch Marilyn’s video on Youtube.

1 year old mix needs home

Neptune speaks: Adopt Me!

Neptune – #693190 – 1 Year Old – Lab/Shepherd Mix – Male

Just the thought of a home is enough to make Neptune grin from ear-to-ear. This sweet pup was found several weeks ago near campus in need of help and a new beginning. Although he left the UA, Neptune is continuing his education in Canine College at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona. Working daily with his personal trainers, Neptune is well on his way to mastering sit, down, stay, heel, stop, name recognition and how to be the best dog he can be. This attentive and brilliant boy should be at the top of his class in no time! Now all Neptune needs is a person, couple or family who will appreciate the companionship of a devoted dog for many years to come. If you could be the kindhearted companion Neptune has been dreaming of, please visit this high achieving, hug–retrieving dog today at the Humane Society.

GREYHOUND ADOPTION LEAGUE (GAL)

Tucson rebounded greyhounds need a home

Spencer & Simone: Adopt us!

This seems to be a major year for greyhound rebounds. When you adopt a greyhound, people must sign a contract saying if they can no longer care for the dog, the hound must be returned to the group. Adopters return dogs because of ill health, old age, and financial reasons.

Arizona Greyhound Rescue has had a significant influx as previously posted here for Clementine and Ozzy.

Greyhound Adoption League (GAL) is in the same predicament. They now have just taken back a matched pair, Spencer (left) and Simone (right). Spencer is 9 years old and Simone is 6 years old. They are looking for a foster home (although a forever home would be even better). These two long-time companions, like Clemmie and Ozzy, must go home together. All the rebounded greyhounds are calm, happy, and love to cuddle.

Currently GAL’s website is offline because of a technical hiccup. If you are interested in foster care or adopting Spencer or Simone, please email tucson.tails@yahoo.com and I will put you in contact with a GAL representative. Please put GAL in the subject line. Thank you.
