Abigail needs a foster home

Pima Animal Care Center (PACC) is having Black Friday pet adoption specials.

Friday, Nov. 23 through Sunday, Nov. 25.
Adoption fees for all animals will be $10, which includes microchips, sterilization and vaccination. Licensing for dogs over the age of three months runs $15, so the most an animal will cost is $25.

FYI: It’s a bad idea to surprise someone else with a pet as a gift. Instead, give a gift certificate that will allow your loved one to find their new best friend in their own time.

Rather than being stampeded in a store this Friday, consider scratching a few ears instead. PACC is located at 4000 N. Silverbell Road and is open noon until 7 p.m. every weekday, and from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on weekends.

P.S. The PACC Thanksgiving day walk was a great success! Volunteer Jack Neuman and his wife Cathy for coordinated Thanksgiving for the dogs and cats at PACC! Approximately 60 volunteers showed up and of these , 30 new volunteer applications were completed. filled out. A possible adoption may have happened from the walk as somebody fell in love with Lucky. Fingers crossed! People also donated lots of canned food. PACC would like to thank everyone who came out and walked the dogs.

Meet Fred Cockatoo

Meet Fred Cockatoo

Pets available at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona

Fred – #735019 – 28 Years Old – Moluccan Cockatoo – Male

Meet Fred, a boisterous bird with personality galore. Surrendered to the HSSA when he started attacking the young children in the family, Fred is now in need of an avian-experienced owner prepared to commit to a lifetime of patience, love and care. Although he’s a little standoffish at first, Fred bonds closely with people who take the time to earn his trust. Offer him a gentle head rub and Fred will waltz over to you with his head down, his beak softly clacking and his gorgeous pink feathers all fluffed up. Whoever ends up with this guy will have a real sweetheart, but they may also have to invest in a lot of earplugs! A typical cockatoo, Fred requires plenty of daily attention and enrichment. But he’s is gaga for toys, cardboard boxes, popcorn and vegetables. If you are interested in sharing your life with this intelligent, animated special companion and are aware of the serious responsibility, please visit Fred today at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona.

Buddy looking to be your buddy

Buddy looking to be your buddy

Buddy – #723596 – 1 Year Old – Shepherd Mix – Male

Buddy had a horrendous start to life, confined for most of his first year to a tool shed. But enough of that! Buddy would prefer to focus on his bright future. This fun-loving bundle of cheer is now letting loose and kicking up his heels with trusted friends. He greatly enjoys palling around with the other dogs and showering his caregivers in unconditional love. All in all, Buddy would make a terrific sidekick. He sure hopes you’re looking for one of those! If you’re interested in meeting this very special boy, please visit the Humane Society of Southern Arizona and ask for Buddy.

Tucson: Help HSSA win

Let’s win Tucson!

from the press release

The Humane Society of Southern Arizona takes on the 2012 ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge!

TUCSON- With community support, the Humane Society of Southern Arizona made it through the voting round and into the ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge.

As one of 50 competing shelters, the real work begins now, and the HSSA is calling on the community once again to help win the whole thing and show that Tucson can compete with the likes of past winners, including Austin.

In order to win the $100,000 top prize, the staff at the HSSA is planning some incredible events and adoption specials. The goal, for the months of August, September and October is to BREAK RECORDS for the number of lives saved – reuniting or finding forever homes for 3,000 dogs and cats by Oct. 31.

“The ASPCA challenge is a perfect way for the Humane Society and community to work together for a common goal that ultimately gets animals adopted to their forever homes,” says Samantha Esquivel, spokeswoman.

To kick off the second phase of this challenge in style, the shelter will be hosting a Late Night event on Friday, Aug. 3, at the main shelter. The adoption lobby will be open until 9 p.m., free eegee’s from 4 to 8 p.m., merchandise from PAWSH stores and free adoptions of adult cats and mixed-breed dogs over 25 pounds.

The Humane Society of Southern Arizona is located at 3450 N. Kelvin Blvd.  ● Tucson, AZ 85716 ● (520) 327-6088

Free adoptions will continue for the entire month of August!

Other special events planned during the three-month Challenge include the Royal Buick Dog Days of Summer adoption event Aug. 18; the Furbaby Fiesta three-day event Sept. 28-30 at the main shelter; and an adoption event at the HabiStore on Oct. 27. More detailed information will be available on these events as it becomes available.

The Challenge begins Aug. 1. Find your new best friend at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona and help win $100,000 to help homeless animals in the Tucson community.

KZ: Help spread the word!  $100,000 would be a huge boost to saving more cats and dogs here in Tucson. Go Tucson!
