The case has been made that 2010 needs to be a peak season for Mike Stoops and the Arizona Wildcat football team.
How many wins make up a peak?
Now it’s time to put a number on it, and that number could be different for every fan. It’s the number of wins you think is realistically achievable and anything less will be viewed as failure. It’s the proverbial setting of the bar. It’s the Line Of Agonizing Disappointment.
MLB Draft Signing Deadline Update: Steve Selsky returning to Arizona, will Jesus Valdez join him?
Tuesday, August 17th, 2010
The Arizona Wildcats baseball team is getting its cleanup hitter back.
Right fielder Steve Selsky did not come to contract terms with the Colorado Rockies after being drafted in the 34th round of the 2010 Major League draft. He will be bringing his powerful bat back to Tucson to play his junior season at the UA.
The news got even better for coach Andy Lopez and his program. Not one of the five drafted recruits signed a pro contract. The biggest surprise was RHP Jesus Valdez who was selected in the 5th round and ended up being the highest of the Los Angeles Angels’ picks not to sign.
Valdez (or any of the other incoming freshmen) could still end up at a junior college where he would be eligible for next year’s draft. Lopez and the Cats are hoping to get him on the UA campus and secure his talents for the next three years.
Fall classes start Monday at Arizona so a few more days of recruiting remain. Having Selsky back to provide run support certainly can’t hurt.
| Player | Position | Round | Pick | Team | Signed? | Jesus Valdez | RHP | 5 | 174 | Angels | NO | D.J. They say if you want to accomplish things in life you need to write them down and set deadlines. Often those deadlines are just pulled out of thin air. But sometimes your self-imposed due date is based on a narrow window of opportunity.
Mike Stoops, this is your window.
The 2010 Arizona Wildcats absolutely need to have a peak football season. Not from a “Win or else” standpoint but more like: “If not now, when?”
Uni-uninformed: Arizona Wildcats football team quietly unveils new uniforms

Arizona hopes the new unis perform better than this one.

During the offseason college football fans love to argue about the same things: coaching changes, recruiting rankings, conference realignment, and uniform changes. Nothing gets people talking like something new.
Because of this it’s surprising the Arizona Wildcats took such a low-key approach to the introduction of their new uniforms for the 2010 football season.
