Batter Up: ASU remains team to beat after taking series from Wildcats

It started out so well for the Arizona Wildcats.

With the athletic department still basking in the glow of the basketball team’s demolition of Duke, the UA baseball squad opened Pac-10 play with a road win against their biggest rivals.

Kurt Heyer and Matt Chaffee combined to strike out 10 Sun Devils in the 5-2 victory in Tempe.

Then the hoopsters lost to UConn and the Arizona baseballers couldn’t get their shots to fall either.

The Arizona Wildcats were not able to reverse three historic trends Saturday night. The updated numbers read:

0-5 vs. UConn

0-3 in the Elite Eight in Anaheim

0-2 during Scott Terrell‘s adult-fan-life on his birthday

For some reason CBS didn’t have a graphic with that 3rd one.

Nasty Cats: Arizona Basketball again exceeds expectations, needs to stay greedy

I’m a pretty optimistic guy.

I tend to expect positive things to happen. I think the next day will be a good day at work. I believe tomorrow I’ll handle things better with the kids. I keep renewing my Arizona football season tickets.

But even I wasn’t that optimistic.

The UA baseball team starts Pac-10 play with its only weekend series of the year against the Arizona State Sun Devils. Didn’t know about it? That’s not your fault. Blame the schedule.
