The Arizona Wildcats baseball team is hoping its adjusted gross income includes another series win but they’re facing a pitching staff that doesn’t allow many deductions.

Picked Off: Oregon State sweeps ASU to turn Pac-10 baseball upside down

We thought we understood Pac-10 baseball. We were wrong.

Last week the top two Pac-10 teams in the polls were Arizona State and Stanford. They combined to win one game over the weekend.

Here are the results and rankings after a wild three days on the diamond.

You never want to get bad news over the phone.

There’s no warning. You can’t see it in the other person’s eyes. There’s no grim expression to put you on your guard. Just…bam.

I thought it was going to be a typical call from the University of Arizona athletic department. Probably a recorded message asking me to renew my football season tickets. Maybe a promotion for the new Wildcat Movement. No, it was a live person with news I wasn’t ready to hear.

The Red Zone is gone.

This Week in the Pac-10, Apr. 8: Kurt Heyer and the Wildcats host Top-25 Cal

The Arizona Wildcats baseball team wasn’t expecting to be sitting in 6th place at this point, but that’s life when you play in a conference with six ranked teams.

The best remedy is to beat one of them and the Cats have another chance at home.

Elsewhere in the Pac-10, none of the tri-leaders play each other this weekend but one of the teams tied for 4th looks to make a move.

Out at Home: Loss to ASU extends tough stretch for Arizona Baseball

It started out so well for the Arizona Wildcats.

Isn’t that what we said last week? Unfortunately, yes.

After starting the season 17-5 the UA has lost three straight and five of eight, including a home loss to Arizona State. It’s enough to make a team ready to fight and that’s almost what happened after both benches cleared Tuesday night.
