Great Need: Arizona Baseball finishes regular season with sweep but big step up needed for tournament

The Arizona Wildcats baseball team did its job in May.

As the level of competition went down the UA’s win total went up. The Cats beat the teams they were supposed to beat and got the home sweeps they needed.

But now it’s tournament time, and decent isn’t good enough.

Can the Wildcats go from not-dominated to dominant?

This Week in the Pac-10, May 27: Baseball regular season ends with championship on the line

Heading into the final weekend of the regular season, three Pac-10 teams have a shot at the championship.

Four more teams, including the Arizona Wildcats, are hoping to finish with a winning conference record and solidify their place in the NCAA tournament.

When they say baseball is a funny game they’re talking about series like this past weekend for the Arizona Wildcats.

Kurt Heyer threw nine shutout innings on Friday night, and his team lost.

The UA outscored a Pac-10 opponent over the three games but lost twice. And it’s the second time that’s happened this year.

That’s baseball.

Derrick Williams caused a stir with some of his quotes at the NBA combine. He made it clear he feels he’s worthy of being the No. 1 pick in the draft.

Considering who owns that pick he may want to reconsider that wish.

TWIT-Pac loves when all Pac-10 teams play conference series at the same time, which means TWIT-Pac is fired up about the final two weeks of the regular season.

Can Oregon State hold off ASU? Will the Arizona Wildcats and Stanford play to three ties? Will UCLA finally put its pitching rotation in the right order?
