Football Future: Preparing for the bowl bubble and Pac-12 bowl expansion

The 2011 college football season starts tomorrow. By the end of the weekend every (eligible) Pac-12 team (not playing 13 games) hopes to have 1/6 of the wins needed to play in the postseason.

Who is going to make it to a bowl game and who is going to come up short?

The haboob of summer sports boredom is about to pass.

The first football game of the Pac-12 era kicks off on Thursday. Two days later the Arizona Wildcats host the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks at 7 p.m. in Tucson. If you need to get things done before the college football season you’re running out of time.

It’s also time to set your expectations for your favorite team.

Almost Perfect: Pac-16 would be greatest conference…unless you’re an Arizona fan

The first games have yet to be played in the Pac-12, the supersized Big Ten and the minimized Big 12, yet the winds of conference realignment are blowing again.

If Texas, Oklahoma and friends agree to the form the Pac-16 it would be the best move commissioner Larry Scott could make.

That is, unless you are an Arizona Wildcat or ASU Sun Devil.

Home Run: Arizona Baseball embracing past with move to Hi Corbett, not ignoring it

When word got out that the University of Arizona athletic department was considering moving its baseball program off campus the response was mixed.

Those in favor of a move to Hi Corbett Field saw it as an instant upgrade in facilities and a financial boost. Those opposed talked about walking away from history and ignoring tradition.

The thing is, Hi Corbett is a part of Wildcat history. A big part.

There are many college football debates that can never be settled.

Could Auburn have beaten USC in 2004? Was Herschel Walker better than Barry Sanders? Are Oregon’s uniforms hideous or genius?

There is one debate that is about to settled and it’s going to impact the national championship picture as long as the BCS remains.

What would happen if an elite “mid-major” team played a BCS conference schedule?
