by on Oct. 31, 2011, under Sports

This is meant to be a maintained and updated list of the potential candidates for the position of head football coach at the University of Arizona. The criteria for making the list are: 1) UA athletic director Greg Byrne might be considering him, and 2) The coach might be interested.

If you believe another name should be on the list please add it in the comments below or send it via Twitter or Facebook.

  • Jaime Guttierez

Jaime back at ya again.  Jaime says no assistants, please.  Jaime advises no on Rodriguez or Bellotti.  Jaime likes:  Al Golden mucho gusto.  Jaime favors Chris Petersen and Gary Patterson a lot too.  Wouldn’t Skip Holtz have his lisping dad around though?  Jaime has a lot of problems with lisps and accents.

  • Vegasallen®

    Jamie is annoying.

  • BBob

Can you add the Texas Special Teams coach?  I think we should hit for the cycle on that one.

  • Nathan

Butch Davis would definitely be interested in this job, so he should be on the list.
I also think Mario Cristobal from FIU would be interested, and he’ll be moving up the coaching ladder sooner rather than later.  Gotta love the Florida recruiting ties.

I can’t see Byrne hiring someone fired for NCAA violations but I will add Cristobal.  A young coach with a recent conference championship deserves a look.  And how can you not like a guy nicknamed “El Rey”?

  • Mr. Dbear

EVERYONE is missing the Coach that Byrne should be going after. He’s Craig Bohl at North Dakota State University. He has the Bison at #1 in the FCS division, he was an assistant at Nebraska, and he has personality plus. Check him out. You’ll be impressed.

Done.  He gets bonus points for beating Kansas (and talking trash about it).

  • Michelle Symonette

Isnt the obvious choice Coach Kish…He has given the Wildcats a whole new attitude and he is def the man for the job…..

  • wildcatlover

Clancy Pendergast currently at California. Would love to see a Wildcat come home!

    • http://uasports.net Scott Terrell

He is now on the list. Looking at the stats, Cal led the Pac-10 in total defense last year and the Bears are #2 just behind Stanford this year. If Arizona is considering assistants he would be worth a look.

  • Mike

Jamie is annoying. Oh wait, that has been said already.
Briles, Sumlin, Leach, Manny Diaz, or Paul Petrino.

  • wayne

Don’t hire Leach unless you want to win- sell tickets and graduate players. Plus he bring 25,000+ loyal texas fans in the package
