The Arizona Wildcats are Pac-12 baseball champions.

It’s been a long time since the program could say that. Two decades and two coaches ago, to be exact. It hasn’t been quite that long for UA head coach Andy Lopez, but it’s been a while.

Party Foul: Arizona Baseball loses to ASU, misses chance to clinch Pac-12 championship

Arizona State’s Jake Barrett struck out the Arizona WildcatsBobby Brown with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Sun Devils a 9-7 win Saturday night at Hi Corbett Field.

Everything was lined up for the UA baseball team. Oregon had lost earlier in the day to leave the BatCats alone in first place in the Pac-12. Cal State Fullerton had also lost, strengthening Arizona’s case to host its first regional since 1992.

Heyer Corbett: Arizona Baseball shuts out ASU to move into tie for first place

The Arizona Wildcats baseball team took the opening game of their series with Arizona State in dramatic fashion Friday night, winning 1-0 when Seth Mejias-Brean doubled in Robert Refsnyder with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning.

The Cats then got some help from their friends in Corvallis as Oregon State beat Oregon to move Arizona into a first-place tie with the Ducks with two games remaining in Pac-12 play.

The final weekend of college baseball’s regular season is upon us.

In the Pac-12, every team faces its bitterest rival with five schools still having a chance to finish on top of the standings. In additional to the conference championship the Arizona Wildcats have a big goal that requires paying special attention to one other series outside the Pac-12.

Heading Home: Arizona Baseball still alive in race to win Pac-12 and host regional

The Arizona Wildcats won the weekend baseball series at Southern California but could not get the sweep. As a result the Cats sit just outside first place in the Pac-12 standings but still have a shot at the program’s best regular season in 20 years.

Just a little extra drama with heated rival Arizona State coming to Hi Corbett Field for three games starting on Friday.
