This Week in the Pac-12, May 1: ASU evens season series with win at Arizona

They say it’s better to give than to receive but that’s certainly not the case when you’re on the pitcher’s mound.

Arizona State took advantage of gracious Arizona hurlers to beat the Wildcats by a score of 7-5 Tuesday night in a four-hour-plus baseball game at Hi Corbett Field.

The UA had leads of 3-0 after one inning and 5-4 after the fifth but it wasn’t enough on a Tucson night when the home team allowed eight bases on balls and hit five other batters.

This Week in the Pac-12, Apr. 17: Arizona Baseball erases 6-run deficit to stun ASU at Hi Corbett

You’ve got to be able to score runs in midweek games and the Arizona Wildcats couldn’t get anything going in an ugly display against Arizona State.

That’s what I would have written if Tuesday’s contest ended after five innings.

Things turned around in a big way for the home team and the UA rallied to score eight runs in its final three at-bats to beat ASU by a score of 10-9. The late-night drama produced the Cats’ best 2013 win to date.

Arizona Baseball Opening Weekend: 2013 Wildcats take first step toward establishing own identity

The 2012 Arizona Wildcats baseball team will be forever linked with greatness. Pac-12 champions. National champions. The team that brought baseball back to life in Tucson.

The fans will still wear the t-shirts and hats but the ’12 BatCats don’t live here anymore.

The new season got underway this past weekend with the latest edition of Arizona Baseball looking to establish its own identity.
