Time Change: Arizona Basketball beginning an in-between season

The cliché Arizona Wildcats fan response during the second half (Second quarter? Second play?) of a bad football loss is to ask, “When does basketball season start?”

Losing an exhibition game to a Division II team takes the punch out of that one.

As the hoops regular season begins tonight it appears Arizona Basketball is headed for a transition year. Not like the football team transitioning from one coach to another but transitioning from a peak season while waiting for the next rapidly approaching peak.

University of Arizona athletic director Greg Byrne and his basketball coach sat side by side to tell the public that all is well with the Wildcat basketball program.

Sean Miller looked and sounded like a man who was at peace with his decision and confident it would be the right decision for years to come.

It’s impossible to say the Arizona Wildcats basketball team did anything but overachieve in 2011. Sean Miller has the UA hoops program back on track and ahead of pace.

So where does that put Miller in terms of his biggest quest: Living up to the standard set by Lute Olson?
