Arcing power lines blamed for big Reno fire

A November fire that swept across hills near Reno, Nev., and destroyed 26 homes was caused by power lines arcing in winds that reached 85 mph, according to a report released today.
The report, by the Reno Fire Department and reviewed by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, says a tree branch “most probably caused” the arcing after it was blown from a hillside tree, the Reno Gazette-Journal says.
The Nov. 18 blaze, which scorched 1,935 acres, also damaged 17 homes.
