Border officers seize 108 illegal Disney pinatas
News item: On Monday U.S. Customs and Border Officers at the Douglas port of entry found a tractor-trailer loaded with papier-mache items, including 108 pinatas in the likeness of Disney characters.
Officers seized the shipment for violation of intellectual property rights.
A CPB official noted that shipments of illegal merchandise on a national scale can undermine the U.S. economy and is a vital element in national security.
Our safety and security is enhanced by preventing another papier-mache attack.

I’m trembling with relief that we dodged another bullet and that our Homeland is again safe and secure. Constant vigilance is required for if Mickey appears, can Minnie be far behind?! And Pluto, Daffy, and those many ducks! Do we have the resolve to stem the tide?!

What a bunch of cr**. Disney abuses the law wrt to intellectual property rights. Trademarks are suppose to expire, but not if you’re Disney. Disney’s work, just like every other artist, should have been in the public domain 50 years ago.

Cheryl,
Check your facts. Trademarks may never expire, patents expire.
“Unlike copyrights or patents, trademark registration rights can last indefinitely if the owner continues to use the mark to identify goods or services.
The term of a federal trademark registration is ten years, with ten-year renewal terms. However, between the fifth and sixth year after the date of initial trademark registration, you must file an “affidavit of use” and pay an additional fee to keep the registration alive. You must also file an affidavit and pay a fee within a year before the end of every ten-year period.
