Humorous look at who gains from global warming

by on Jul. 26, 2010, under humor

We have all heard the dire predictions about the negative consequences of global warming.

Sea levels will rise 200 feet inundating cities like New York and Washington DC and flooding serious portions of Los Angeles and San Francisco. Florida will be under water as will New Orleans and Houston. Massive droughts will plague the US cutting our food production. Phoenix will see temperatures in excess of 120 degrees all summer.

But for every downside to something there is also an upside.

One should remember that over geologic time there have been periods when carbon dioxide in the atmosphere was much greater than anything predicted by modern climate scientists. And what happened back then? Dinosaurs ruled the earth. Maybe the dinosaurs will come back.

Drowning New York and DC might not been seen as a negative for the Tea Party and other conservatives.

Those who own land 201 feet above sea level will someday be able to sell beach front property.

The Arctic Ocean will be free of ice opening up the Northwest Passage for shipping and oil exploration.

One thing that is interesting is that if you look at where Republicans have gained the most since the 1950’s they are all in the hottest places in America…the South, Arizona. The hotter the county gets in the summer maybe more heat-crazed people will vote Republican.

This summer’s heat waves on the East Coast may have serious ramifications in the November elections.

Could it be GOP political wizards have figured out the heat-related rise in GOP voters? Opposing climate change legislation might be necessary to protect their political future since they’ve alienated all the Hispanics in the country.

One thing for sure….I’d get my skiing in at Mount Lemmon before it stops snowing up there.

Do you have any suggestions who will be a winner in a globally warmed world?
