US Customs and Border Protection Press Release September 30, 2010
U.S. Border Patrol Seizes More Marijuana
Nogales Border Patrol Agents Seize Nearly 1,000 PoundsTUCSON, Ariz. – In two separate incidents over the last 24 hours, U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Tucson Sector seized marijuana with an approximate weight of 925 pounds and an estimated value exceeding $740,000.
Nogales Station agents assigned to the Interstate 19 Checkpoint seized more than 260 pounds of marijuana Wednesday, when a Border Patrol canine team alerted to a vehicle during inspection. The vehicle, marijuana and driver were transported to Nogales Station for processing. (Photo available)
In a separate incident, agents assigned to the Nogales Station responded to a call of possible illegal activity in downtown Nogales Thursday. Agents discovered 25 bundles of marijuana hidden in the brush, weighing more than 665 pounds.
“Checkpoints, along with the keen contraband detection abilities of canine units, have been critical to the drug interdiction effectiveness of our agents” said Interim Patrol Agent in Charge of the Nogales Station Carla Provost. “Nogales agents remain dedicated to preventing illegal narcotics from reaching our communities while improving the quality of life along the border.”
The Border Patrol’s defense-in-depth strategy allows agents conducting checkpoint operations to disrupt the pathways of illegal drugs. From Oct. 1, 2009, to Aug. 31, 2010, the Tucson Sector Border Patrol seized more than 943,000 pounds of marijuana valued in excess of $754 million.

Jesus said to treat other people the way we would want to be treated. I know I wouldn’t want my college kid to go to jail with the sexual predators, or my parents to have their house stolen by the police, if they used a little marijuana. Let’s change the world. Let’s get registered and vote. Citizens and college students in Arizona can insert the w w w and get voter info:
azsos.gov/election/VoterInformation.htm
In California, register at w w w . sos.ca.gov/elections/elections_vr.htm .(just fill out the form and mail it in). And you can request a ballot by mail at w w w . sos.ca.gov/elections/elections_m.htm . In other states, Google your state name and the phrase, voter registration. Print off the form and mail it in (or drive it down to City Hall). Five minutes. Register to vote. Change the world. Right now. Pass it on

Pot heads ! Useless members of society
September 30th, 2010 on 2:24 pm
You are so wrong. Scientist can be included into your pothead label. So can daily workers, why do you believe in stereotypes.
September 30th, 2010 on 2:34 pm

Cannabis legalization IS happening. It’s just a question of how many lives and tax dollars will be wasted before it’s done. Some vested interests, of course, will fight change until the bitter end. Progress has never been accepted by everyone. Google Marijuana Myths — Learn the truth.

That figures out to $800/lb. Is that what weed is going for these days? Wow! Some serious inflation since I was in college.
September 30th, 2010 on 8:26 pm
I mean real serious inflation. I cannot believe that here we are in the 21st Century still spending millions of dollars trying to stamp out a weed that costs nothing to grow while people are driving around like crazy running into us head on wasted on a legal drug, alcohol, that’s as vicious as a drug can be. Legalize marijuana and the cartels will have to smoke their own stash.
Potheads. Useless members of society? I must know a few hundred people, from every walk of life, who could refute that assumption with all that they have given to society for decades and still are – with a nice little buzz.

The story should say U.S. Border Patrol worries about a harmless nontoxic plant instead of keeping illegal aliens from entering the country and stealing much needed jobs and social services that rightfully belong to US citizens.
The drug war is a failure! Americans are going to use marijuana legal or not and if you really want a war you may get one just like they are getting in Mexico.
Legalize marijuana! NO ONE, OF ANY AGE, IN ALL OF RECORDED HISTORY, ANYWHERE ON PLANET EARTH, HAS EVER DIED FROM THE INGREDIENTS IN MARIJUANA!… MANY HAVE DIED AND MILLIONS HAVE BEEN HARMED BY IT’S PROHIBITION!Google: “WHY IS MARIJUANA ILLEGAL, Pete Guither” and “MARIJUANA AND HEMP THE UNTOLD STORY, Thomas J.
