While the U.S.-Mexico border region has developed a reputation for danger, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano stressed Thursday that protection of the border “is better now than it ever has been” and violence has not spilled into the United States.

Speaking in El Paso at the Bridge of the Americas, which connects Texas to Ciudad Juarez, Napolitano said that border is safe and that her department is working to further secure it. I  guess if one says something often enough it must be true….

But as one commentor on the Politico article suggested…if the border is so safe why doesn’t Janet take a moonlight walk along the border…alone.

If she tried that she certainly would not want to be 4 or 5 miles west of Nogales where there is no fence, and few border patrol agents because there aren’t many roads, and the canyons are infested with drug smugglers carrying AK 47s….where Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was killed by border bandits…and where 2 AK 47′s that ATF “walked” to the cartel were found at Agent Terry’s murder site..

“Better than ever”  does NOT mean the border is actually secure.
