Today’s dirty word: compromise
by Hugh Holub on Jul. 26, 2011, under politicsWatching all the fuss in Washington over the debt limit it is obvious that neither side understands the word “compromise”.
That’s the new dirty word in America.
I can’t get 100& of what I want, and neither can you.
If you get 100% of what you want and run me over…I have no interest in the success of your victory. In fact, after I get over my anger at being run over, sulk a bit, I’ll figure out how to do everything I can to screw you.
And vice versa is true…if I “win” I’m just going to have to constantly watch my back because when you get a chance, you’re gonna shoot at me.
So instead we make a “deal”….. I get what is most important to me and you get something equally important to you and I can go back to my troops and say we won and you can go back to your troops and claim you won.
“Win-win”.
But to protect our “win” we have to make the deal work and not sabotage it because I want to take away what you won because you will turn around and take away what I won.
I get 50% of something and you get 50% of something instead of one of us getting 100% of ultimately nothing but more fighting.
Mick Jagger maybe said it best “you can’t always get what you want…but you will always get what you need.”
Enough of the games in DC…solve the darned debt limit problem!

Mick Jaggar has no idea what he needs or anyone else. Maybe revise it to: “you can’t always get what you want and you might get nuthin!” Majority rules and in the art of compromise if you take away their power you won’t have to compromise.
