Even after all that has happened, I’m still a big fan of home ownership and feel delighted that our 32-year old son just purchased his first home. Does that mean I’ve been completely brainwashed, or what?

Thanks for the food for thought. Incidentally, I’ll buy the popcorn as we all watch the perp walks — if and when anyone actually gets prosecuted for sinking the economy and making the “American Dream” of home ownership take a nightmarish turn for so many.

Who told these chucklehead home owners that they could have a house and not able to keep it? I had to jump through hoops to get my house. These folks were lead down the primrose path.

OK, Hugh. I agree – the secondary market for mortgages needs to be closely watched by the government and people should not be giving mortgages to folks that are highly unlikely to be able to pay it back.

Your suggestion about filling some of the empty homes is also well received, as is the idea of bringing the hammer down on people committing mortgage fraud.

I can only conclude that one of us is getting smarter.
