The only thing holding back Phoenix North senior shooting guard Daniel Bejarano from committing to Arizona now is his desire to view the UA campus and practice facility before making a decision.
“And even that is not that big of a deal to me,” Bejarano said after visiting with the UA assistant coaches Monday night. “What I know already about Arizona, after visiting the coaches and getting to know them, I like what I see.
“Their visit tonight was terrific, just like my visit with Coach (Sean) Miller (last Thursday night). I’m trying to build a relationship with them and establish that trust that I want. Not knowing who they were before tonight, building that trust is very important.”
Bejarano will spend more time with the staff, including assistants Archie Miller, James Whitford and Book Richardson, Wednesday through Friday during his official visit to the UA campus.
“One of the things I’m looking forward to the most about going to Tucson is being with them again,” Bejarano said. “They are great guys. I can’t get enough of them. We spent most of the night laughing and having a good time.
“I will probably (make a commitment) some time before my trip or afterward. The main thing is I want to see Tucson first and see the Richard Jefferson gym and all that. I’ve played there before (at McKale Center in a summer elite tournament in 2008), but this will be different. I will be looking at a lot of different things. And I know I’ll like what I see.”
Bejarano will take the trip to Tucson with his mother Barbara Butler, mentor and traveling coach Ray Arvizu Jr., and Arvizu’s son Robert (a teammate of his).
“Robert and I will be getting there Wednesday before lunch to go over some of the academic things Arizona has to offer,” Bejarano said. “This is an exciting time for me and my family.”
