Jack’s mentor: Player not committing to a college

by on Apr. 28, 2010, under Sports

UPDATE: Kadeem Jack and his mother are visiting South Kent (Conn.) Prep this week, according to Adam Zagoria

Damian Leslie, Kadeem Jack‘s mentor, has finally surfaced in a media report indicating that Jack will attend a prep school next year.

“He’s not committing to a college,” Leslie told DNAinfo. “I don’t think it’s what anyone expects.”

Leslie has not returned phone calls and text messages sent from TucsonCitizen.com.

Jack, a 6-9 forward from Manhattan (N.Y.) Rice High School, was to announce his college choice Wednesday, but opted to delay that announcement. Those recruiting him the most included Arizona, Miami, Arkansas and UConn.

With Jack apparently out of the picture, the UA is likely focusing its attention on Miami-Dade Junior College forward Eloy Vargas, who played his freshman season at Florida. Vargas will visit the UA campus on May 7-8 and follow that up with a visit to Seattle University.

Arizona has one scholarship to fill for the Class of 2010-11.

Foolishness. What if Jack gets hurt or has a bad year at prep school? He could have less or no interest next year. It’s better to take the bird in hand. I hope Mr. Leslie advised him of such.
