WOW, Javier! I had no clue we could have an impact on someone like this. Thank you so much for inspiring me. You've officially fueled my fire. I'm sorry you've had to experience cancer first hand through a loved one, but I have no doubt your father would be proud of you. Until Boot Camp for Cancer 2013...

After I was introduced to Jay, the first thing he said was that he had read your blog (don't think he had read mine, oh well). Hope you do get to particpate in the March 17 5K Beat Cancer Boot Camp Challenge at Brandi Fenton Park. MC "Sarge" stated that she would ask Jay to particpate as well, so he may be there.

Thank you Carolyn. Thank you for sharing this. I am thrilled that he read the blog and commented about it because I have respect for Jay. I wish I could have been in attendance. I hope to make it to Tucson for the Beat Cancer Boot Camp there in March.

Javier, Jay Dobyns said tonight that he had read this blog. He gave a very inspirational speech in admiration of the cancer survivors present at the annual celebration as "warriors" who had to face the "adversary they could not see or anticipate its actions" (unlike the work he did in his past). He emphasized that family was the most important thing in life, as you have written above concerning your father, whom I did meet in Tucson. Dobyns also said that "courage was the best of all human attributes." Glad you were able to participate in the Las Vegas Beat Cancer Boot Camp, and that your late father Hector's spirit was inspired you.

His defense at WVU was in the top ten in the nation the last few years when he was there and after he left. Jeff Casteel is a good DC and he'll be at Arizona because nobody of the old WVU besides him is on the staff and Dana Holgorsen probably wants to bring in his choice of DC. And what Greg Robinson ran at Michigan is nothing near what was used at WVU. The one RR used at WVU was a 3-4 with a safety as one of the outside linebackers. And it was much more aggressive than what Greg Robinson was doing, which is how an odd man front should be ran.

Good points, one and all. The defensive piece is going to be critical to his success at Arizona. I think he'll be able to recruit well and challenge for the pac-12 south title on a yearly basis. And maybe they will meet Michigan in the Rose Bowl, that would be fun.

I think a RichRod-Brady Hoke match up would be exciting. I loved RichRod's offense but his defenses (even at WVA) sucked. If he allows his D-coordinator to run his own style of defense instead of RichRod's weak 3-3-5, I think we could have a blow for blow match up. I hope Rich Rod wins every game except when they play Michigan. It would be wonderful to see the two teams meet in the National Championship.

Javy, thank you for the kind words. Your series brought back great memories of my all-time favorite Arizona players. I either watched them as a fan or played with these guys. They are guys you could go to war with and know you are going to win. Another cool thing is that they are "everyman" type people who you could sit and have a beer with and have fun. I am honored to be you list anywhere, let alone the #1 on "O" - man, that's my Heisman! I'll fuel your debate for some of the honorable mentions (and thank you Mr. Giminio for rescuing me from the "haters" comments but, no-need, they make me laugh):

David Adams - 170 pounds and 165 of it was heart. It was an honor to block for him.

Lamonte Hunley - People mistake his kindness for weakness. One of the nicest people you will ever meet but on the football field he would cut your throat.

Charlie Dickey - Just like Lamonte. A complete and charming person off the field but you didn't want to play against him because you might lose a limb.

PS: Lamonte and Charlie were the two team captains my senior year. I voted for both them. Two of the best leaders ever at Arizona.

Glenn Perkins - I practiced against him as a redshirt, he scared me.

Gordon "Crunch" Bunch - an assassin. Fearless and kinda crazy in a good way. An under-publicized Chuck Cecil. Dangerous to even practice against.

Tom Tunnicliffe - Congrats to Nick for surpassing 10,000 yards - he has been a joy to watch play but, for my money TT was the toughest player ever on "O" at AZ. He would have been my #1. Tough, courageous, humble, gracious and a great teammate - and a winner who played his biggest in the biggest games. I feel privliged to have been in the huddle with Tom.

Thanks again Javy for the ride down memory lane. I look forward to you doing a similar piece for basketball and baseball - my preliminary votes: Pete Williams for basketball, Kevin Ward for baseball.

Great follow up Javier. It's good to see Tom Tunnicliffe and Keith Smith get mention. One more QB who warrants mention, perhaps, is Ortege Jenkins. With the Leap by the Lake, that was a sacrifice of the body that lives on in UA lore.

Announcers. If there was a wing in the UA BA Hall for print, radio and TV guys in Cat history, I cast my vote for Peter A. Solomon. I'm looking right now for the tape of that Notre Dame game from South Bend.
