The hiring Friday of former UNLV coach Lon Kruger by Oklahoma could impact the Arizona Wildcats to varying degrees.

Lon Kruger's move to Oklahoma from UNLV could have an impact on Arizona in various ways (US Presswire photo/Christopher Hanewinckel)

The possibilities:

Kruger and Arizona coach Sean Miller wanted the series between the two schools to resume, according to the Las Vegas Sun last year. With former Arizona athletic director Jim Livengood in the same capacity with the Rebels, a series between the rivals remains a possibility. A game in Las Vegas benefits Arizona from a recruiting standpoint because nationally-recognized programs Findlay Prep and Bishop Gorman High School are in the area.

Gorman includes Arizona Class of 2012 targets Rosco Allen, Ben Carter and Shabazz Muhammad. Gorman’s head coach is Grant Rice, brother of former UNLV player David Rice, a BYU assistant who has emerged as a top candidate.

Findlay Class of 2013 shooting guard Nigel Williams-Goss verbally committed to UNLV earlier this season because of Kruger. Williams-Goss told me in November before that commitment that Arizona, Washington and UNLV were his leaders. He said that he maintained constant contact with Arizona’s coaches, especially assistant Archie Miller. He went so far as to say that he hoped to take an unofficial visit of the UA campus. Findlay assistant Todd Simon told me Saturday morning that Williams-Goss “is not sure what he will do yet.”

Kruger’s move also could impact former UA assistant coach Mike Dunlap, currently an aide at St. John’s who is mentioned as a candidate by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Don’t count on Livengood raiding Sean Miller’s staff, namely Archie Miller, who should have his own program within two years. When Livengood underwent a coaching search for UNLV’s football program before last season he purposely stayed away from Mike Stoops‘ staff, which included former offensive coordinator Sonny Dykes at the time.

Former UCLA players Chace Stanback and Mike Moser, a former Arizona commit, transferred to UNLV because Kruger coached there. Stanback, who will be a senior, and Moser, a sophomore next year after having to sit out this season, did not attend a meeting with Kruger Friday night.

Moser, a 6-8 forward with a 7-foot wingspan from Portland, committed to Arizona in 2008 but changed his mind when former coach Lute Olson abruptly retired before the 2008-09 season. He played sparingly as a freshman at UCLA in 2009-10 before transferring to UNLV.

How snakebit do you think Moser feels right now?

RELATED LINK AT WILDCATSPORTSREPORT.COM: Las Vegas Bishop Gorman forward Ben Carter recruitment heats up from Arizona and others

LAS VEGAS — Arizona assistant coach Archie Miller could not attend Saturday night’s double-overtime thriller between Henderson (Nev.) Findlay Prep and Las Vegas Bishop Gorman here because of a prior engagement in Pullman, Wash.

So Miller went to his next-best option knowing that some recognizable coaches would be in attendance at Cox Pavilion, which is adjacent to Thomas and Mack Arena, UNLV’s home arena. Lon Kruger and his Rebels staff were among the many collegiate coaches watching the prospects on the Findlay and Gorman rosters.

More appropriately, these coaches attended Findlay’s 89-86 victory to be seen by the players and the parents or guardians.

With Arizona’s staff in the Palouse coaching the Wildcats to their most important victory in the brief Sean Miller Era, what was their best way to compete against the scenario of UCLA coach Ben Howland sitting courtside next to Jerry Tarkanian?

What was their answer for Washington coach Lorenzo Romar and Oklahoma State coach Travis Ford walking on the court after the game in plain view?

Findlay guard Nick Johnson, a Class of 2011 signee with Arizona, became an extension of the Wildcat coaching staff. He not only had the task of guarding potential McDonald’s All-American Shabazz Muhammad of Bishop Gorman, but also show Muhammad’s teammates — Class of 2012 standouts Rosco Allen and Ben Carter — what could lie ahead if they team with Johnson at Arizona.

“I talked to Archie and he said just go at them,” said Johnson, when asked about playing against the potential future teammates. “Archie said, ‘Make them see what they are still missing.’ I mean, they are young bucks still. We are recruiting them. It would be huge to get them.”

Some of the more optimistic Arizona fans believe the “them” Johnson is talking about should include Muhammad, a slender yet strong 6-foot-6, 205-pound, Class of 2012 wing player who is garnering interest from the nation’s elite including North Carolina, Duke, UCLA, Kentucky and Texas. Memphis, coached by former UA player and assistant coach Josh Pastner, is also aggressively recruiting him.

Muhammad contends that he includes Arizona on his list, but even his high school coach Grant Rice insinuated to me after Saturday night’s game that the Wildcats are not in his immediate plans.

“Nick playing against Shabazz tonight was a good individual matchup,” Rice said. “They will probably play each other again in college at some point.”

The Johnson-Muhammad matchup was worth the $10 ticket fans purchased to attend the thrill-a-minute game at Cox Pavilion. Rice said the fee to occupy Cox Pavilion for what was billed “The Big City Showdown” was $9,000.

“Can you believe that?” Rice said incredulously to Findlay assistant coach Todd Simon after the game. “$9,000.”

The way the game concluded, the price actually seems like a bargain.

The standing-room-only crowd in excess of 3,100 was entertained with Johnson trying to contain Muhammad from the start to the end of the game when Texas-bound guard Myck Kabongo drew defenders and kicked the ball out to an open Kevin Kaspar for the game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer.

“Nick is a great player, a Micky D All-American (McDonald’s All-American),” said Muhammad, who finished with 32 points, scoring 12 of them in the two overtime sessions after Johnson fouled out. “It’s tough to play against him on the offensive end, just trying to go to the basket on him. He was doing a really good job on defense.”

Findlay coach Mike Peck kept Johnson on Muhammad for most of the game. Simon said Findlay could have used others from time to time on Muhammad, who is similar to Arizona’s Derrick Williams in that he prides himself going to the free-throw line as much as making a highlight-reel dunk.

Johnson, however, wanted the exclusive assignment, although he realized the crowd’s reaction to Muhammad could have an effect on how the referees called the game.

“We knew coming in that this is Las Vegas, this is his hometown,” Johnson said. “He’ll get everything, and he did. But I think I made him work for every shot and that’s a good thing. We came out with the ‘W’, that’s all that matters to me.

“I just guarded (Syracuse-bound) Michael Carter-Williams and (Oklahoma State signee) LeBryan Nash (at the HoopHall Classic in Springfield, Mass.) so I’ve had some big matchups. So it was nothing really.”

The task of containing Muhammad affected Johnson on the offensive end, according to Simon, because of the attention necessary to stay between Muhammad and the basket on defense. Rice also trapped Johnson on the perimeter when he tried to set up for the three or make a drive to the basket.

Johnson, who finished with a season-low 10 points, did not make his first field goal until 37 seconds remained in the third quarter.

“He’s our defensive stopper; he draws those assignments,” Simon said. “In the process, he occasionally sacrifices his offensive game, which is unbelievable. He’ll have a bright future because he can do that for a team.”

Muhammad forced plenty of off-balanced shots against Johnson, who at 6-3 gives up a couple of inches. As the game progressed, Muhammad tried to take Johnson more off the dribble all the way to the hoop and draw the foul. The referees increasingly called fouls on most possessions from the fourth quarter on.

“Nick is an unbelievable defender and Shabazz took that personally,” Rice said. “It was a great matchup between two McDonald’s All-American type players going at it. It was fun to watch. Shabazz is a little bigger than Nick, and Shabazz competes with everybody.”

After fouling out early in the first overtime session, Johnson became a spectator like so many others in the cramped gym. As a competitor in the same vein as Muhammad, it was excruciating for Johnson to occupy a seat on the bench and not be able to help his teammates. That pain was detectable on Johnson’s face.

Findlay managed to win thanks to the athleticism of point guard Myck Kabongo, who finished with 26 points and created scoring opportunities for others with his quickness off the dribble. When Kaspar nailed the game-winning three off the Kabongo feed, Johnson was one of the first Findlay players to rush the floor and hug Kaspar at midcourt.

“Honestly, I would hate to be a coach and sit and watch the game like that,” Johnson said with a laugh. “I wanted to be out there so badly. It was definitely difficult. We were working all game. I trusted my teammates and I knew we would come out on top.”

LAS VEGAS — In the last two to three years, former Marana Mountain View basketball player Demetris Morant has moved from Miami to Tallahassee to Tucson and now to Las Vegas.

“Hopefully, I will be here until I graduate,” Morant, a junior forward at Bishop Gorman High School, said with a laugh Thursday after an individual workout.

Morant, a 6-foot-8-inch, 190-pound, lanky forward with a 7-foot wingspan, worked on his footwork and jump hook with a trainer away from his Gorman teammates. Morant, whose transfer papers from Mountain View recently cleared, cannot join Gorman’s team for workouts until he takes a physical next week. He moved to Las Vegas with his parents, who relocated to the area because of a job transfer.

The Gaels engaged in drills and a scrimmage together in front of college recruiters, including Memphis coach Josh Pastner, the former UA basketball and assistant coach. Pastner has extended a scholarship offer to Morant. San Diego State has also offered a scholarship. Arizona, ASU, Washington State and Utah are among others giving Morant a look.

His training session with former UNLV player Warren Rosegreen on Thursday night made it obvious that Morant’s focus is working on his post moves. After playing youth football for most of his childhood, Morant did not play organized basketball until he was a freshman in Florida.

“It’s kind of hard not staying with one team and getting to know my teammates,” he said. “My freshman year, it was my first year playing basketball, so I didn’t know what I was doing. I hardly played. Last year in Tucson I got better and became one of the best ones on the team. They depended on me.

“This year, with Gorman, I will have a lot of help.”

Most of that help will come from the UA-targeted Class of 2012 recruits Shabazz Muhammad, Rosco Allen and Ben Carter, all of whom are destined to be major college basketball players.

Morant played in the same AAU system as Muhammad during the summer — DreamVision. Gorman coach Grant Rice said Morant told Muhammad that he was moving and would probably not play with him again.

“Shabazz asked him where he was moving to, and Demetris told him Las Vegas,” Rice said with a laugh. “Shabazz told him, ‘That’s where I live.’ Now they are high school teammates.”

Morant, whose naivete shows his youth, was obviously pleasantly surprised.

“The talent level here is way different from our school in Tucson,” Morant said. “Basketball is very different because of the competition here. … Overall, I just like it more here than Tucson. I’m not sure why, but I just do.”

With a comment like that, is it out of the question to believe Morant will return to Tucson to possibly play for the Wildcats in a couple of years?

“No, I mean I like Tucson, but not as much as here right now,” he said. “I have friends there. I still have a lot of respect for Arizona and their coaches. They still want me. They are still recruiting me even though I left.

“They have told me they are looking forward to coming out here to see me practice this year and develop more as a player.”

Morant averaged 11 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3 blocks per game with Mountain View last season. Those numbers figure to decrease because of his reduced playing time competing with much more talent. This season will be important for Morant in terms of how he grasps the fundamentals. His senior year could be a breakout season.

Nick Johnson was the recipient of a hard foul this week by DeMar DeRozan and his teammate Jabari Brown stood by his side

Things got a little touchy with current NBA players and college basketball prospects leading up to the Boost Mobile Elite 24 game in Venice Beach on Saturday. According to a tweet by RealGM.com, Nick Johnson was at the center of a dispute between former Henderson (Nev.) Findlay Prep teammate Jabari Brown and Toronto’s DeMar DeRozan during one of the scrimmages during the week. “Jabari Brown getting into it with DeMar DeRozan. Some serious ****-talking going on here after DeRozan hits Nick Johnson with a hard foul,” is what the Twitter feed reads.

If anything, this shows the strong relationship between Brown and Johnson. During their summer together with the Drew Gooden/Oakland Soldiers, Johnson and Brown were recipients of many passes from Josiah Turner that led to uncontested shots or dunks. Out of the many AAU players I watched in Las Vegas in July, Brown and Johnson are unparalleled when it comes to working hard away from the ball to becoming a threat to score or open up a possibility for others. … Depending on who you read this week — the Arizona media vs. the Kansas media — there are varying outlooks concerning the decision of Sacramento point guard Josiah Turner to move up his visit to Arizona on Sept. 17-18 from Oct. 22-23. That leaves Turner’s visit to Kansas on Oct. 15 for The Late Night in the Phog event as his last visit. The general belief of those who follow Arizona, including yours truly, is that Turner’s move is a good sign for the Cats. A source indicated to WildcatSportsReport.com’s Gary Randazzo last week that Arizona’s coaches wanted the visit to be earlier in the process. The reason: Turner’s interest in the UA program has never been more robust, especially with Johnson committing to the Cats. They want to seize the moment and hope Turner commits after his visit. Kansas’ viewpoint is different, as evidenced by Gary Bedore‘s article in the Lawrence Journal-World. Bedore quotes Rivals.com analyst Shay Wildeboor as saying the fact that Turner will tentatively visit Kansas last is “huge.” “By the time he announces, it will be the last thing he’ll remember,” Wildeboor said. “He attended Late Night on an unofficial visit last year. He’s coming back on an official visit this year and has made KU his final visit. He obviously has great interest in KU.” …

The first day coaches can have off-campus contact with potential Class of 2011 recruits is Sept. 9. Las Vegas Bishop Gorman coach Grant Rice told me Friday that he expects a gym full of coaches and their assistants for an evening workout that night. “We scheduled the evening workout specifically to allow these coaches to have a chance to see our kids,” Rice said. Bishop Gorman has at least two prospects Arizona is interested in: Class of 2011 wing player Shabazz Muhammad and Class of 2012 forward Rosco Allen. Rice said the Wildcats might also be interested in Class of 2012 power forward prospect Ben Carter and Muhammad’s brother, Class of 2013 guard Rashaad Muhammad. “I just talked to Arizona coaches last week,” Rice said. “I expect one of them to be here on the ninth and during the season when they can.” … Muhammad seems to be a stretch now for Arizona, especially after he listed his top seven recently and did not name the Wildcats. His list includes North Carolina, Kentucky, Memphis, UCLA, Texas, Kansas and UNLV. Allen, on the other hand, is strongly interested in the Wildcats, especially after taking an unofficial visit to Tucson with his father early in the summer. …

If I was on the Arizona payroll, I would publicize a great deal that Andre Iguodala is part of the U.S. team playing in the World Championships in Turkey. Iguodala stands a good chance to make the 2012 Olympics. Recruits want reassurance these days that the school they choose will set them up for life on the basketball court. Although that’s a far-fetched notion for most, Iguodala is living that dream. Playing for Team USA under Mike Krzyzewski is a benefit for Iguodala, who has endured one coaching regime after another with Philadelphia. He now plays for Doug Collins, one of the more visible NBA coaches because of his broadcasting background. Collins’ son Chris Collins is on the Team USA coaching staff. He played at Duke and has coached under Krzyzewski there for 10 years. The Philadelphia Daily News reported this week that Chris Collins is keeping his father up to date on any Iguodala developments. … Mustafa Shakur signed with New Orleans last week, which is a promising development for the 26-year-old former Arizona player. His contract is partially guaranteed, meaning that if he gets cut, he will be compensated. Shakur’s mindset is more of making the team and improving his stock with that team or another NBA team. New Orleans dealt away Chris Paul’s backup, Darren Collison to Indiana. This undoubtedly is Shakur’s best chance to make an NBA roster.

LAS VEGAS — With the amount of time Shabazz Muhammad of Las Vegas Bishop Gorman High School has been in the spotlight, it seems like he should already be in college.

Muhammad, however, is only about to enter his junior season, perhaps the most coveted guard prospect in the Class of 2012.

College coaches have recruited him since he was in middle school and he has traveled the country with his high school and AAU programs throughout his freshman and sophomore seasons. Many of those coaches continue to observe Muhammad to this very day at the adidas Super 64 tournament at Rancho High School.

Muhammad will continue to experience that national schedule with Bishop Gorman plenty more, including the City of Palms Classic in Fort Myers, Fla., and the Nike Extravaganza against St. Patrick’s of Elizabeth, N.J., in Anaheim next season.

When asked if he is antsy to finally start college, Muhammad said, “Yeah, a little bit, but it’s been a great experience with these coaches calling.”

UA coach Sean Miller and his brother Archie Miller, an assistant coach with the Wildcats, are two of those coaches Muhammad is talking about. Book Richardson, another assistant, observed Muhammad and Class of 2012 wing player Winston Shepard and Class of 2013 guard Tyrell Robinson in the Dream Vision’s game with the Franchize All-Stars of Texas on Thursday night.

Coaches from Memphis, Duke and North Carolina were also among the large group in attendance. USC coach Kevin O’Neill was also there.

As a sidebar, Lute Olson’s coaching lineage is very apparent here. Including O’Neill, former members of Olson’s coaching staff include Memphis head coach Josh Pastner, Cal assistant Jay John, Stanford assistant Rodney Tention, and UTEP assistant Phil Johnson.

Former assistants who guided the UA in 2008-09 after Olson retired –Russ Pennell (Grand Canyon head coach) and Mike Dunlap (St. John’s assistant) — are also present. Matt Brase, Olson’s grandson and former member of the UA staff that included Pennell, Dunlap and Bret Brielmaier, is also in Las Vegas as a Grand Canyon assistant.

Furthermore, Memphis assistant coach Jack Murphy spent eight years as a team manager, recruiting coordinator, administrative assistant and video coordinator under Olson at Arizona from 1998-2006. Murphy and Pastner are recruiting Muhammad successfully to this point.

“I’m supposed to go to Memphis (for an unofficial visit) soon and that will be a great experience,” said Muhammad, who at 6-5 can play three positions — point guard, shooting guard and wing. “Coach Pastner is a great guy. He’s working hard to come get me to his program.

“He and the assistant (Murphy) talk to my dad every day. He’s on top of things.”

Muhammad, who already has taken unofficial trips to Duke and North Carolina, confirmed that Arizona remains “definitely in the picture.”

“I really like talking to their assistant coach (Archie Miller),” he said. “They’ve also had great guards come through there like Mike Bibby.”

Kansas is also hot on his trail. The Jayhawks will play the Wildcats in Las Vegas in November.

“I will try to get out there and watch that,” he said. “Being a junior now, I’m going to be watching their program closely this season.”

Muhammad is relentless attacking the basket and he is a fierce defender. His size allows him to be physical with smaller guards and also look over them for unobstructed shots. His biggest question mark has been the consistency of his jump shot.

“I’ve been working a lot on my jump shot, and my free-throw shooting,” he said. “I feel like I’m getting a lot better in those areas.”

What’s more daunting, facing the background of a college-student cheering section while standing at the free-throw line, or looking up in the stands and seeing a who’s-who of college basketball coaches watch your every move?

That was the situation for top-flight Class of 2012 talent Shabazz Muhammad on Tuesday during the first day of the July evaluation period. Muhammad, of Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman, drew a crowd including the likes of UA’s Sean Miller, Roy Williams, Bill Self, Billy Donovan, Mike Krzyzewski and Ben Howland, among many others, at the adidas Invitational at Indianapolis.

The tournament is held at North Central High School, the school that former UA point guard Jason Gardner attended. Muhammad no doubt has seen Gardner’s jersey hanging in the gym. Gardner was the 1999 Mr. Indiana winner as the state’s top boys basketball player. One of Miller’s goals is to restore those kind of recruiting successes.

To some, however, the hunt for Muhammad, potentially the No. 1 recruit of his class by the time he graduates, might be similar to Arizona’s unsuccessful attempt to land Baltimore Class of 2010 standout Josh Selby (who chose to attend Kansas).

Time will tell. The Cats should be in a more favorable position, having three seasons completed under Miller when Muhammad finally plays college hoops. And Miller’s try at Muhammad might be more of symbolism than anything. It shows that Miller intends to keep the direction started by Lute Olson — the cream of the crop will continue to be a recruiting focus.

According to various reports out of Indianapolis, Muhammad, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard, lived up to the expectations of the high-profile coaches. He displayed accuracy from beyond the three-point line. He showed a quick first step to the basket. He is also a tough-as-nails defender.

He scored 32 points in a losing effort for the Dream Vision AAU team against Indiana Elite.

Arizona is already in pursuit of one of Muhammad’s teammates at Bishop Gorman — small forward Roscoe Allen, a 6-7 player. Allen unofficially visited the Arizona campus last month.

Other recruiting news: Gary Randazzo, of WildcatSportsReport.com, is reporting that UA assistant coach Book Richardson is in Germany scouting Class of 2011 point guard Quinn Cook, who is playing with USA Basketball’s Under-17 team in the FIBA World Championships. Richardson’s appearance there shows how serious the Cats want Cook, who has the UA on his short list. Richardson is sharing the stands with some strong competition, however, in Hamberg. Kentucky head coach John Calipari and assistant Orlando Antigua are there as well to make themselves seen by Cook. They are also watching commits Marquis Teague and Michael Gilchrist. … Other potential UA recruits at the adidas Invitational include Class of 2012 center Isaiah Austin of Arlington (Texas) Grace Prep, Class of 2012 forward Winston Shepard of Henderson (Nev.) Findlay (who is a teammate of Muhammad with Dream Vision), and Class of 2011 guard Norman Powell of San Diego (Calif.) Lincoln.

Quick hits on the recruiting trail:

Communicated today with Phoenix North High School shooting guard Daniel Bejarano, who has signed a national letter of intent with Arizona, and he mentioned that the Mustangs’ season opener Monday at 7 p.m. against Phoenix St. Mary’s will be shown live on Cox Channel 7. Phoenix North is the reigning Class 5A Division II state champion. This will be a good chance to see what kind of skills Bejarano has to offer. “I’m focusing on getting my teammates another state championship,” Bejarano said. “That’s all I can think about.”

Class of 2011 recruit Sidiki Johnson begins his 2009-10 season Dec. 7 with St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark, N.J.

Potential Class of 2010 recruit Chris Hill is eight games into his season at Stevens Prep Academy in Raleigh, N.C. His team, 5-3, begins play in the prestigious Bull City Classic on Friday in Durham, N.C. The tournament features top prep schools in North Carolina, California, Florida, Oklahoma and Indiana.

One interested observer of the UA’s Dec. 2 game with UNLV will be highly coveted Class of 2012 recruit Shabazz Muhammad of Las Vegas Bishop Gorman High School. The game will be televised via Fox Sports Arizona, which is available in the Las Vegas market. Muhammad, a 6-4 shooting guard, is being recruited by UNLV, Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, North Carolina and UCLA, among others. UNLV coach Lon Kruger is a good friend of Shabazz’s father — former USC player Ron Holmes — who has let it be known that the Rebels are very much in play for his son’s services. Holmes ranks as one of the Trojans’ top 20 scorers in that school’s history.

Before I begin, did you notice that former UA player and assistant Josh Pastner has the No. 2-ranked recruiting class for the Class of 2010 at Memphis, according to Rivals.com? …

I realize this is like making a plan to win the lottery, but I thought I would put together a list of possible recruits UA coach Sean Miller and his staff will be targeting two years from now.

These players are sophomores in high school, but you can never start too early. Just ask Lute Olson, who according to Sports Illustrated offered scholarships to two different prospects before they started the eighth grade. You might recall that Nic Wise, now a senior point guard with the Wildcats, verbally committed to Olson and Pastner when he was an eighth-grader in Houston.

At least these kids are a little older, in the 10th grade, but most of them are only 15 and capable of changing their minds a zillion times. UA freshman guard Lamont “MoMo” Jones verbally committed to Louisville and Virginia Tech before signing a national letter of intent with USC. He then left the Trojans to sign with Arizona when former USC coach Tim Floyd resigned.

The Class of 2012 is extremely important to Miller and his staff as it completely transitions to his personnel. Most of the Olson holdovers will be gone after the 2011-2012 season, including Kyle Fogg, Alex Jacobson, Garland Judkins, Brendon Lavender, and D.J. Shumpert.

The Class of 2012 players are separated by region with information provided by Hoopmasters.com and Scout.com (Rivals.com does not yet list the Class of 2012 recruits and Scout.com does not have these prospects ranked as of now).

WEST
Shabazz Muhammad, SG, 6-3, 165, Las Vegas (NV). Rated the No. 1 prospect in the class by Van Coleman of Hoopmasters.com.
Xavier Johnson, SF, 6-6, 175, Temecula (CA).
Winston Shepard, PF, 6-7, 190, Henderson (NV)
Gabe York, PG, 6-0, 165, Orange (CA)

EAST
Alex Murphy, SF, 6-8, 180, Southborough (MA)
Khem Birch, PF, 6-9, 180, Winchendon (MA). His teammate and potential Class of 2011 recruit Angel Nunez is trying to bring Birch along for an unofficial visit this month.

SOUTH
Winston Sheppard, SF, 6-6, 180, Sugar Land (TX)
Isaiah Austin, C, 7-0, 215, Arlington (TX)
J-Mychal Reese, PG, 6-0, 160, Brian (TX). He’s one of the eighth graders Olson offered a scholarship to as documented in the SI article.

MIDWEST
Perry Ellis, PF, 6-8, 215, Wichita (KS)

STATE OF ARIZONA 2012 PROSPECTS
Demetrius Balark, SG, 6-1, 160, Glendale Kellis
Larry Lews, SG, 6-1, 160, Phoenix Arcadia. He visited the UA unofficially during last week’s Red-Blue game.

CLASS OF 2013 IN-STATE PROSPECTS
Torren Jones, SF, 6-7, 200, Chandler Basha. The UA has offered a scholarship along with USC and Oregon State.
Maurice Kirby, C, 6-8, 215, Flagstaff. He and Jones also visited the UA last weekend unofficially.
