Apparently, the Northeast hasn’t received word of Foles yet

by on Sep. 24, 2010, under Nick Foles

Arizona junior quarterback Nick Foles is on the fringes of the Heisman Trophy discussion, ranking 17th in a voter’s poll at StiffArmTrophy.com.

Foles was unranked last week … and then he passed for 303 yards and the game-winning touchdown against Iowa on Saturday.

The poll includes 68 Heisman voters from 36 states … and the geography shows the regional bias (out here, we call it East Coast bias). Based on the criteria listed for the website’s preseason poll, voters are asked to list 15 names on this weekly survey, and none of the eight voters from the Northeast included Foles.

It is very early. And, even if UA goes undefeated, changes are that is a Rose Bowl bid as Ohio State and Alabama, TCU would be in front. Just like USC, Texas and others, you really need to prove it two years in a row to get a nod into the big game. For Foles and Heisman, legitimate shot if he stays his senior year; not this year; not really. MAYBE if he totally lights it up for 300+ yards and 85% every game to the end. He would definately be in poll position next year if he beats Oregon in Oregon and show up to the Rose Bowl.  2011 is his to loose.
