The Arizona Wildcats’ past two offensive coordinators are now head coaches.
Sonny Dykes, in his first season at Louisiana Tech, is 3-4 overall but has back-to-back victories — over Utah State and Idaho.
The man he replaced at Arizona, Mike Canales, was selected the interim head coach at North Texas on Wednesday morning, taking over for Todd Dodge, who was fired.
Canales is in his first season at North Texas. He was at South Florida for the previous three seasons, landing at UNT after USF coach Jim Leavitt was fired.
Canales was Mike Stoops’ first offensive coordinator at Arizona, working in Tucson from the 2004-2006 seasons.
He takes over a North Texas team that is 1-6 overall and 1-3 in the Sun Belt Conference. Dodge was 6-37 in three-plus seasons with the Mean Green.
Here is a list I compiled last month on where former Arizona assistant coaches are working these days.
