Sign of the times: Soon after Arizona kicker Alex Zendejas had two extra point attempts blocked against Arizona State on Thursday night, several related Facebook pages emerged.

Zendejas twice kicked low, failing to give the Wildcats the lead with 27 seconds left in regulation and then missing at the end of the second overtime to give the Sun Devils a 30-29 double-overtime victory.

So, you have choices.

Will you like the “I would trade Alex Zendejas for Kyle Brotzman” page? That refers to the Boise State kicker who missed a short field goal at the end of regulation last week, and another in overtime, as the Broncos’ national championship dreams ended in a loss at Nevada.

First post on the site: As the old saying goes “Miss a game winning extra point once… shame on you. Miss it twice and the entire school hates you.”

But perhaps you don’t feel that way and would prefer “The Wildcat Nation Loves Alex Zendejas

Along those lines, there is also the “Alex Zendejas Is only a Human!!! There’s No I in Team” page.

And this Facebook group: “We still love Alex Zendejas! KEEP YOUR HEAD UP! Still Wildcat Family!!!

On the other hand, “Betty White kicks better than Alex Zendejas” might be more in tune with your feelings.

Or this: “Alex Zendejas should never show his face in Tucson

And still more along those lines: “100 people who can kick better than Alex Zendejas

There are other pages, too, and I assume you know how to search to find them.

Love him, hate him, support him, vilify him, there is a Zendejas page for you.

There is plenty of blame to go around in this game, Zendejas’ blocked PATs just embodies a game of miscues and missed opportunities.

Blown pass coverages, dropped interceptions, missed tackles, shanked punts, dumb penalties.

Certainly, UA could use a better, stronger place kicker. But Zendejas didn’t lose the game. The Wildcats did.

    • Jamie

No I am pretty sure it was Zendejas in the end.

  • monica

I agree with Mark! It should have never come to a field goal to win the game!!! I’m sure he feels bad enough as it is! There is no I in team and it is a fact the wildcats lost as a team!!!! Pathetic 3-0 first half ASU. Are you kidding me??? Really?? Someone last night also brought up a good point they should have moved back some to give the kicker some extra room. I blame not only the players for a poor performance from quarterback to kicker and everyone in between but also the coaching staff!!!! CHANGES NEED TO BE MADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! KUDOS to Elmore and Criner!!

    • Blake Duarte

      I COMPLETELY AGREEEEE

  • UA CATS

…. There is a ME in team.
Also, the TEAM scored the touchdowns needed to win.  Why do you need to move back on an EXTRA POINT ATTEMPT!?! It’s not a field goal its a PAT.  I would have rather put all my eggs in the basket going with Foles for two rather than Zendejas.  PATs should not be risky business.

    • Phillip

      Zendejas for the Anti-Heisman!

    • Stephany

I agree. I turned to my husband last night and asked if we should pull a Tomey and go for two…… 20/20 I guess, but sure liked our chances (throwing anyway)

This the same Alex who taunted Oregon Coach Chip Kelly.
    He’s a bad kicker. What’s worse is he’s a bad sport.
No place for that kind of person on a football TEAM.

Final straw – I  am changing my name from wild4cats to SunDevils4ever…nuff said! I am tired of this stinkin team always blowing it. At least the Devils can smell the roses now and again. Good luck in blow game on 4 game losing streak(not a typo!).

    • Phillip

Yep. 1 stinken rose bowl that’s all we ask for.

    • Stephany

      you suck.

Zendejas had this coming to him… Karma is a bi#&!  He shouldn’t be so cocky pointing to other head coaches like he did last week at Oregon and think he’s so bad ass when he’s actually not that good of a kicker.

  • Marni Patterson

There’s enough blame to go around. UA played a HORRIBLE game. In fact, it’s one of several this season (Cal, Oregon State, USC). With that said, a team needs to be able to depend on its kicker. A missed field goal could cost you a game. And PAT’s should be automatic. Alex is a nice kid. We actually met him at one of the pre-season kickoff events. However, he’s proven that he can’t get the job done. So, it’s time to find someone else.
The players I really feel sorry for are the the ones that we see play their hearts out week after week like Nick Foles, Jeron Criner, Ricky Elmore, Brooks Reed and others. It’s a shame to see them play to win and then lose because we have a kicker who can’t kick.

  • Blake Duarte

    Ok, couple of things.
    1. I am related to Alex,
    2. Its a TEAM
3.You cant but him on the field and expect him to win a game by himself. I didn’t know he played defense offense and special teams.Plain an simple.

    • Jim

He doesn’t play offense, defense, and special teams. If he did, we would be 0-12. The OFFENSE went through all the normal adversity of a football game, and still put the team in position to win. He gave the kicker the chance to win the game.He screwed it up. Plain and simple. THE TEAM DID ALL THEY COULD DO!

    • fraser007

Thats what kickers do. They win it by themselves. Look at the pictures and videos. He kicks too low and it hit his own player in the ass. He has had all year to fix it. He better do it before the Alamo Bowl. I dont care if he a Zendejas (or you are).  Kick the damn ball or turn in his scholarship. Thats all he does is three seconds to kick a ball. Do it.
