When a particular major college basketball unit is HEIGHT-CHALLENGED in the low post, it's of upmost importance to make it difficult on the other squad from scoring.

In other words, it's what I call a Catch-22 hardwood situation- No not the fictional novel, which was based on historical events. The Wildcat's will give up the two-points. But won't consistenly give up the 3-PT shot. Enter Arizona's nasty, 3-PT defense.

Of course, other tangibles and non-tangibes are part of the Wildcat equation for success this season. However, the Wildcats team defense is the solid foundation and abso-LUTE difference maker for a possible regular season conference championship in 2012. Eh.

" Oregon at Arizona (3:30 ET): Arizona got too feisty in its overtime win against Oregon State. Sweeping the Oregon schools at home would keep Arizona in line for a possible Pac-12 title. This is going to be a long, arduous race, and protecting home court will be a difference-maker. Oregon hasn't shown it can win on the road yet. Not sure it starts in Tucson. " Andy Katz, espn.com

-----------------------------
Here's an outsider's take on the upcoming sunny Saturday afternoon matchup between your Wildcats and the quacky Ducks. Eh.

And I'm glad Andrew and I agree about PAC-12 contenders protecting the home court. Eh. Of course, it don't take no major college hoopdom Einstein to figure that one out. Especially since the conference is weak this season.

That's why Arizona's gutty victory over O.S.U. last night was so abso-LUTE-ly important in the scheme of Wildcat matters.

The way I see it, the Wildcats relatively difficult non-conference schedule probably was one of the deciding factors in the outcome. Yeah, yeah the McKale faithful also were a helping spirit. dUh.

By the way, look for Arizona to have several more of those UGLY, NASTY Big East type of ballgames. Because DEFENSE wins championships, which Miller is well aware of.

I come clean, naturally. I was the typical whining, HYPER-critical Wilbur fan and I wasn't, naturally, a Lavender loyalist during his sophomore season. Matter of fact, I didn't mind IF he would've transfered after his sophomore season. Thankfully, Brendon put to bloody SHAME last season. And now I thank the major college hoopdom deities that B-Lav was/and has been LOYAL to the Arizona Wildcat program.

In other words, Lavender has put the Arizona name, tradition and program first and foremost in his college sports outlook, and probably hasn't thought of himself. Like some, BUT NOT ALL, major college basketball players. SEE the me generation in most facets of life in Pax Americana, for example.

For it seems the nowdays most players out of H.S., unlike Brenden, are about their individual ego and what not. Eh. And don't want to wait for their opportunity.

By the way, B-Lav will abso-LUTE-ly get more minutes as the conference season progresses. Because Miller doesn't suffer fools easily.

Go B-lav! great game, and I hope your shooting touch continues as you play more in the upcoming games. I think, more importantly, B-lav's success may help soften the shooting slump of the other players on the team. Sometimes all it takes is the shooting percentage of one player to snap everyone out of a shooting slump... now lets take it to the ducks!
