Local lineman and sleeper backer chose Cats
by Brad Allis on Jun. 08, 2010, under SportsMike Stoops continues to recruit well locally. The Wildcats have offered just two local players for the 2011 class and on Monday the Wildcats received a verbal commitment from one of them, Salpointe offensive lineman Jacob Arzouman.
Arzouman is a versatile offensive lineman, who should able to play center at the collge level. At 6-3 and only 260, Arzouman will have to add some bulk to be effective but will have the luxury of taking the time to hit the weight room once he gets to Arizona.
Arzouman has long been on the Wildcats’ radar, getting an offer as a sophomore and he committed to the Cats this past weekend at the Arizona elite camp.
“I committed to coach (Bill) Bedenbaugh,” Arzouman said. “He was excited and said that he was excited to have me.”
A local product, Arzouman plays at the very high school that Arizona conducts much of their fall camp. Obviously there is a familiarity between the Wildcats and Arzouman. The fact that Salpointe is less than a 10 minute drive from campus has the big lineman’s parents pleased.
”My parents are excited,” Arzouman said. “They are happy that they get to just drive to see me.”
Although he is firmly committed, Arzouman said he will still make some visits he already had scheduled.
Arzouman is a good student, boasting a 3.77 GPA, but is still not sure what he wants to study.
“I am a math and science kind of guy so maybe engineering or something like that,” Arzouman explained.
The Cats also received a verbal commitment from Bakersfield linebacker Hank Hobson. Hobson is a bit of a sleeper, but has decent size at 6-2, 215. He was in Tucson over the weekend, but did not participate in the camps.
