Summer Snapshot: Quarterbacksby Brad Allis on Jun. 03, 2011, under Arizona Wildcats Football, Sports
We are about two months away from the start of fall camp and three months until the start of the season. Over the next few weeks we’ll be taking a quick look at each position group. We start with quarterbacks.
Nick Foles 6-5, 240, SR* (546-836 5,677 yds, 39 TD, 19 INT)
Matt Scott 6-3, 195, SR (114-176 1,301 yds, 6 TD, 5 INT)
Bryson Beirne 6-3, 235, SR* (5-5 33 yds, 1 TD, 0 INT)
Daxx Garman 6-2, 175, FR
Tom Savage 6-5, 240, JR (192-372 2,732 yds, 16 TD, 7 INT in two years at Rutgers)
OVERALL: This may be the deepest, most talented group of quarterbacks in school history. Foles has a chance to re-write the record books, while Matt Scott may have a shot to redshirt and prove himself next year. Garman and Savage will redshirt, while Beirne may finally get his shot to see the field in meaningful minutes.
SAY GOODBYE TO: Cameron Allerheiligen. The freshman quarterback was a late addition to the 2010 class, but after redshirting last year he left the program and will pursue baseball at the junior college level.
SAY HELLO TO: Garman and Savage. Garman was the first commit in the 2011 class and despite sitting out his senior season due to eligibility issues, is still well regarded. He graduated high school in December and enrolled in January so he could participate in spring ball. Savage is a transfer from Rutgers who started for the Scarlet Knights as a true freshman but lost his job after getting injured and did not like the new direction the offense was taking.
Anthony Gimino spoke with Savage a few days ago.
