Former Cats at center of “Perfect Game-gate”

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

Lost in the controversy of Detroit’s Armando Galarraga’s lost perfect game was who got the phantom base hit due to the blown call from umpire Jim Joyce. That player was former Wildcat Jason Donald. With two outs in the ninth, Cleveland’s Donald grounded to Detroit first baseman Miguel Cabrera, who threw to Galarraga covering at first, who beat Donald by half a step only to have Joyce call him safe.

Galarraga got the next batter out to preserve the shut out. That batter? Former Wildcat Trevor Crowe.

Another former Wildcat was at the game, though he did not play. Former Arizona pitcher Ryan Perry was in the bullpen watching the game.

Two more Wildcats are in the Tigers and Indians’ minor league systems. Jordan Brown is a Cleveland minor leaguer, while pitcher Daniel Schlereth is in Detroits’ system.
