That s the maximum amount that Congress will allow the debt to rise..You don t need to be the second coming of Archimedes to figure out that Washington has a money problem. Last February President Obama raised the debt ceiling to that 14 294 000 000 000 limit. If Congress doesn t act to raise it the federal government won t be able to borrow any more cash and would likely default on its existing debt..Get ready for a monumental face off between Republicans who want to cut federal spending and would likely oppose any rise in the debt ceiling and Democrats who want to keep money flowing into government programs through a hike in the debt limit..The stakes obviously are very high.

POTUS rhetoric and POTUS action are two different things. He will still provide billions in subsidies for uneconomic solar and wind energy as part of his "winning the future (WTF)" campaign.

BTW it would take light 2.75 years to travel 16 trillion miles. A light year is a measure of distance not time. (1 light-year is about 5.8 trillion miles).

Hey Jonathon: Don't hold me to this, butI think that our beloved POTUS Obama wants to freeze spending at current levels, and cut next year's budget by $100 Billion Dollars. To that, I say BRAVO! That would reduce our yearly deficit of aprox $1.5 Trillion Dollars by 5%. To use an old saw, it's like putting a Band-Aide on a cancer. What is our total National Debt now, $16 Trillion Dollars and climbing? I don't know how much money is circulating in the entire world at any one given time, but it can't be too much more than $16 Trillion Dollars. How many millions of Light Years would it take to travel 16 trillion miles, if you were travelling at the speed of light? Anybody got the answer before I give it tomorrow? -- Yer pal, Ferrari Bubba
