Douglas Miles (Apache Skateboards) — Listen to what the Native Americans have to say about their Love for this land …by Dee Dee Garcia Blase on Apr. 18, 2013, under Art, Culture, Native American
Douglas Miles with the Apache Skateboards Movement has a sincere love for this land. He’s an Arizona Native American with the San Carlos Apache Tribe and he has an incredible story that originated from a simple seed of love.
The story that touched my heart and told by Douglas began when he explained the origins of the Apache Skateboards Company. As a loving father, he wanted to design and make a skateboard for his son because his budget did not call for one of the “name brand” skateboards that was more than he could afford at the time. He designed a skateboard for his son, and eventually this idea became the birth of the Apache Skateboards Company as he began designing and creating art on more affordable skateboards for the other kids.
Now that my friends … IS LOVE!
No amount of money can make up for the love of a father creating art from his heart and for his loved one. My heart continues to be influenced and touched by this story.
I pay attention to what Miles has to say because he is a member of the Arizona Native American community.
The other day he said: “This is America, buddy: Love it or give it back.” That stuck with me and that thought continues to be at the forefront of my mind for some reason.
Think about that for a minute … have we been taking care of our land and earth? Can we do better?
