Phoenix, AZ – We are disappointed to learn that Republicans are still using derogatory terms that predate the Civil Rights era.  We consider the term “wetback” offensive.  According to the Washington Post, Rep. Don Young (R-Alaska), in an interview with a local radio station released Thursday, referred to Latinos working on a ranch by using the derogatory term “wetbacks.”

The ousted and former Republican Senator Russell Pearce also proudly used this derogatory term despite being told it was offensive. This is precisely why Mexican-Americans who account for almost 70% of the entire Latino population pie are leaving the Republican Party and this is precisely why members of SOMOS REPUBLICANS joined a new movement via SOMOS INDEPENDENTS.  In fact, the GOP has not yet reversed their restrictionist and protectionist anti-immigrant platform they adopted in 2012.

About the National Tequila Party Movement:
The National Tequila Party Movement (now known as SOMOS INDEPENDENTS is a woman-led political movement. More females vote in Presidential elections than men strong Latina matriarchs are emerging. It is our goal to communicatto females and Latina matriarchs across the nation with regard to the need for compassion towards undocumented immigrants and the need to fix the broken immigration system. The Tequila Party is currently organizing a national tour of concerts, events, dinners and college rallies that will encourage a massive Latino Get Out The Vote and political participation. This movement is a non-partisan movement. We don’t care how people vote, we just want them to get on the early ballot system, become consistent primary and general election voters.

ICE needs to be investigated for violating the Civil Rights of 800 USC’s who were detained without cause!

Thursday, February 21st, 2013

Just in via Shirl Mora James, Civil Rights and Immigration Lawyer and also the President of SOMOS INDEPENDENTS (formerly National Tequila Party Movement — a woman led movement) pushing for legal immigration reform.

Shirl states:
“ICE needs to investigated for violating the civil rights of 800 USCs, who were detained without cause!”

From the Mora James Law Immigration Blog:

Report: ICE detained 800 U.S. citizens in 4 years: “According to the report from the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse out of Syracuse University known as TRAC, which gathers data on government activities, these detainers ended up including over 800 American citizens and over 28,000 legal permanent residents.”

National Foundation for American Policy (NFAP): Immigrants will contribute $611 billion to the Social Security system over the next 75 years

Tuesday, February 19th, 2013

We’ve known all along how much immigrants contribute to our economy with regard to competitive labor and tax revenues in the billions (with a B). We also know the aging population is usurping much of the federal tax revenues with social security and other government benefits, and we want to ensure our elderly is taken care of.  One way to ensure our elderly is taken care of is to support legal immigration reform.   AARP ought to take part of the discussion relating to immigration since this issue impacts them, too.

I saw this on Shirl Mora James’ immigration site (President of Somos Independents a Latina-led and woman-led political movement):

Dispensing with a new ‘dagger’ against immigration reform | Fox News

“According to the independent National Foundation for American Policy (NFAP), immigrants will contribute $611 billion to the Social Security system over the next 75 years. Indeed, immigrants are a key force in keeping the Social Security trust fund solvent for older Americans who are at or near retirement. NFAP also found that halting all immigration into the United Size would explode the size of the Social Security deficit by at least 31 percent over 50 years.

Jeffrey S. Passel and Michael E. Fix, two respected demographers, recently compared the welfare participation rates of legal immigrants to native-born American citizens. Controlling for income, they found that immigrants had nearly identical — and in some cases lower — participation rates than citizens in the three big social programs: welfare, food stamps, and Medicaid. They found that 32 percent of natural-born citizen families at the 200 percent poverty line received food stamps, compared to only 22 percent of immigrant families.
Their findings complement those of another pair of demographers, James P. Smith and Barry Edmonston, for example, who found last year that immigrants actually receive less in Social Security and Medicare benefits than do native-born American citizens.”

Bipartisan group of U.S. Senators offer a framework for immigration overhaul

Bipartisan group of U.S. Senators offer a framework for immigration overhaul

By Shirl Mora James, Civil Rights and Immigration Lawyer — President of Somos Independents

Good news, commonsense U.S. Senators recognize the demands of the American people who are saying it is time for Comprehensive Immigration Reform.  Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ), Senator Michael Bennet (D-CO), Senator John McCain (R-AZ), Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ) are the Group of 8, who are working closely together on a basic framework for America’s Comprehensive Immigration Reform.

The 4 main points in their proposal are as follows:

1.  Create a tough but fair path to citizenship for unauthorized immigrants currently living in the United States that is contingent upon securing our borders and tracking whether legal immigrants have left the country when required;

2.   Reform our legal immigration system to better recognize the importance of characteristics that will help build the American economy and strengthen American families;

3.   Create an effective employment verification system that will prevent identity theft and end the hiring of future unauthorized workers; and

4.   Establish an improved process for admitting future workers to serve our nation’s workforce needs, while simultaneously protecting all workers.

2nd largest voting bloc in Arizona via independent voters supported Prop 121 – Open Primary; but Koch Brothers helped defeat it

Wednesday, November 7th, 2012

The 2nd largest voting bloc in Arizona via independent voters supported Prop 121 – Top Two or Arizona Open Primary; but the Koch Brothers helped

TEA PARTY funders via Koch Brothers funnel over half a million to kill Prop 121 because they fear Independent Voters rising. Don’t worry, independents will rise anyway.

defeat it by injecting over half a million into the race fighting it even though Prop 121 was 12 points ahead 2 weeks ago.

The Koch Bros manages to get both Party leaders scared enough to lose their partisanship power and we witnessed simple minded politicians utilize their fear tactics when in reality they feared losing Party power.

Nonetheless, we were glad to see Prop 121 be supported by the approximate 1/3 independent voters, anyway, while Republicans and Democratic voters voted against it.  There were probably more Republicans who voted against the Prop 121 than Democrats since we saw Prop 204 (via tax increase) fail, too, in our state.

More from IVN:

Koch Brothers Defeat Prop 121 “Top-Two” Open Primary in AZ

(Arizona) – The Koch brothers acted decisively, and secretly to defeat non-partisan Open Primary reformers in Arizona. The Koch brothers funneled more than half a million dollars to fund the partisan attack on Proposition 121. The money powered an aggressive “No” campaign, led in a bipartisan manner by the leaders of the Republican, Democrat, and even third parties in Arizona.

The Koch brothers also funneled millions of dollars into California to oppose Proposition 30 and in support of Proposition 32. In a press release issued by the FPPC:

Americans for Responsible Leadership, the Arizona non-profit corporation that made an anonymous $11 million donation to a California campaign committee, today sent a letter declaring itself to be the intermediary and not the true source of the contribution. It identified the true source of the contribution as Americans for Job Security, through a second intermediary, The Center to Protect Patient Rights. Under California law, the failure to disclose this initially was campaign money laundering. At $11 million, this is the largest contribution ever disclosed as campaign money laundering in California history.

Former Phoenix Mayor, Paul Johnson, lead the “Yes” effort, but was outgunned and out campaigned by the state’s Republican and Democratic establishment.

The Koch brothers cash was distributed by Americans for Responsible Leadership Chairman Robert Graham. Graham  is also campaigning for the chairmanship of the Arizona Republican Party. So, Graham’s interest in preserving a system that concentrates both money and power in the hands of the state’s majority party is not surprising.

No comment yet about how the Democratic leaders explain their secret alliance with the same financial interests that they have publicly lambasted for bankrolling the country’s most far right wing causes and candidates.

GOP Birther Donald Trump is Paranoid of Gary Johnson’s “L” Libertarian Factor in the Presidential Race

Tuesday, November 6th, 2012

First of all, a vote for Gary Johnson is a vote for Gary Johnson, but nativists and birthers are scared to death of the “L” Libertarian factor and how it will affect GOP races across the nation.  What is it with people who are concerned about how others CHOOSE to vote?  We each have the free will born right to vote however the hell we feel, and those who say otherwise are merely afraid that their candidate of choice is not strong enough to win on their own merit and accord.  There is NO SUCH THING AS A WASTED VOTE as long as the individual believes in the candidate’s platform!

More importantly, if Gary Johnson receives at least 5% of the popular vote, the Libertarian Party will be eligible for Presidential funding in 2016.

I wrote about that here:

2016 Matching Funds an incentive for Libertarian – Republican voters to vote for Gary Johnson this year

More importantly, I am all about punishing the 2 major party system since both major parties have failed the American people with their partisanship. Tea Party people are the worst with their obstructionism in my view, and it is high time we work on methods that will bring our nation together and instead of the divisiveness the 2 major parties bring along with their fringe groups.  Our Nation has already experienced a Civil War, and we don’t need another one

Personally, I’m an independent voter for life, and plan on staying an independent voter who will cast my vote based on the person who is running for office — and not necessarily a Party.

Below is the paranoid tweet from Donald Trump who wants to bring our Nation back to the Ice Ages and archaic belief systems:

Good News: Veteran Supported Candidates like Tammy Duckworth are gaining momentum

Friday, October 26th, 2012

Huge news! Military Veteran supported Tammy Duckworth hits a double-digit lead in new poll!  For those of you who may not know this, Tammy is an Iraqi Veteran, and we support her.

From ROLL CALL:

ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. — Iraq War veteran Tammy Duckworth (D) had a 10-point advantage over freshman Rep. Joe Walsh (R) in the most recent poll of the suburban Chicago 8th district.

Duckworth led Walsh, 50 percent to 40 percent, in the Chicago Tribune poll of 600 likely voters. Notably, Duckworth led Walsh among female voters, 54 percent to 34 percent.

The new numbers come one day after Duckworth hosted Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.) to discuss Walsh’s comments on abortion. Speier opened up about her own medically necessary abortion on the House floor last February.

Richard Carmona can be a “maverick” and pull more independent voters in Arizona by supporting Prop 121 / Arizona Open Primaries

Friday, October 26th, 2012

As an independent voter of Arizona, I want former independent voter and U.S. candidate Richard Carmona to beat Jeff Flake.

Like Senator John McCain, U.S. Senate Candidate via Richard Carmona served our Armed Forces when he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1967. While enlisted, he joined the United States Army Special Forces, became a combat-decorated Vietnam veteran, and began his career in medicine as a Special Forces medic.

Jeff Flake has proven to us that he is willing to toe the extremist Tea Party line; Whereas  Richard Carmona has proven he can work in a bipartisanship fashion.

What can Richard Carmona consider in these last 10 days before the November 6th election day that will cinch in the win from key Arizona independent voters?

Most Arizonans believe Arizona has a maverick history (some ugly and some good) that stems back from the Martin Luther King Holiday issue.  Arizona was  one of the few states in the United States that did not support MLK Holiday.  Recall to your memory when Senator John McCain did not support Martin Luther King Holiday way back when it was being discussed? Indeed there was a big hoopla over it.

According to TIME:

At the time, only 27 states and Washington, D.C., honored the holiday. Most famously, all three Arizona House Republicans including current Senator and former presidential candidate John McCain, voted against the bill in ’83. The state did not vote in favor of recognizing the holiday until 1992, not only rejecting pleas from Reagan and then Arizona governor Evan Mecham but also losing the NFL’s support when the league moved Super Bowl XXVII from Sun Devil Stadium, in Tempe, to California in protest. Arizona was not the only state openly contemptuous of federal law. In 2000, 17 years after the law’s official passage and the same year it pulled the Confederate flag down from its statehouse dome, South Carolina became the last state to sign a bill recognizing Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a paid holiday.

In a sense, Carmona proved his “maverick” status because after he was appointed by President Bush to become the 17th Surgeon General of the United States, he became  highly critical of the Bush administration for suppressing scientific findings which conflicted with the Administration’s ideological agenda.

These days, polling is very hard to rely upon, and if Carmona feels like things are too close for comfort — I encourage him to prove his independence by supporting Prop 121 in these last days of the election cycle — after all, independent voters are the 2nd largest voting bloc in Arizona and independents are pushing the Arizona Open Primary measure.  In fact, Prop 121 is expected to pass by 5% if you believe the polls provided bythe Independent Voter Network.

Why should Carmona consider Prop 121?

Because it will empower independent voters in Arizona and it will make them happy.  Independent Voter Network (IVN ) has more information below:

IndependentVoting.org, a national strategy, communications, and organizing center working to connect and empower the 40% of Americans who identify themselves as independents, has begun conducting a survey to educate and activate Arizona voters about Proposition 121, the Top-Two Open Primary Initiative.

Early results show that when independents learn about Prop 121 and how top-two open primaries work, by allowing independents to vote in the first and often decisive round of voting, they strongly support it. 84% said they plan to vote yes on Proposition 121 after hearing the specifics of the measure.

For the first time in Arizona history — independent voters have become the 2nd largest voting bloc because many of us believe the 2 major party system has failed Americans due to extremism and the fringe groups.  It would be wonderful to see two veterans serving the U.S. Senate side-by-side that will bring a much needed Ronald Reagan/Tip O’Neill atmosphere to Washington D.C.

It’s time to snap our state out of extremism — and it’s time for balance to be restored.  Tea Party supporters have done enough damage already with their obstructionism, and we cannot do it with Flake who has proven to toe the tea party line that hurts Veterans.  Veterans who have served our Armed Forces and put their lives on the line for this great Nation.

I would rather have 4 more years of Obama Care than 8 years of Romney Care

Monday, October 22nd, 2012

As an Arizona Independent registered voter, I would rather have 4 more years of Obama Care than 8 years of Romney Care.  Nobody knows what they are gonna get with Mitt Romney since he has reversed his position on just about every political issue imaginable.  We know what we are going to get with President Obama, and I just cannot trust a politician like Romney.  Mitt Romney refuses to be transparent with his tax returns yet wants Americans to trust him?  How can Americans trust him when nobody knows what his real convictions are?

How can Romney explain wanting to increase our war and defense budget by $2.1 trillion, yet not want to take care of our elderly and senior citizens here in our Homeland?  He would rather spend money bombing other countries while ignoring Homeland issues here relating to Americans?  Doesn’t make sense to spend money abroad and increasing war budgets, and Americans are tired of war.

Mitt Romney has reversed himself on all positions ranging from health care, immigration, abortion and pro life.

In fact, Mitt Romney’s own Republican cohort called him out on his own hypocrisy — see below:

The moment was, of course, the exchange between Rick Santorum and Romney when Santorum was aggressively challenging Romney about health care. Romney was going through his standard defense of his health-care plan, saying it was right for Massachusetts but not for other states. Santorum wasn’t buying it: “Think about what that means going up against Barack Obama … You are going to claim [about the Affordable Care Act], ‘Well, it doesn’t work and we should repeal.’ And he’s going to say, ‘Wait a minute, governor. You said it works well in Massachusetts.’ Folks—we can’t give this issue away in this election. It is about fundamental freedom … It’s going to be on your ballot as to whether there should be a government mandate here in Florida. According to Governor Romney, that’s OK.”

The New Yorker wrote about Mitt Romney’s reversals — indeed, Romney is making every attempt to be teflon on just about every issue ranging from abortion, immigration, health care, and jobs.

Mitt Romney can be a hard man to pin down. But there is one thing that he’s been clear about: if he becomes President, he will repeal Obamacare. That simple promise, more than any other that Romney has made, illuminates what is most at stake in this year’s election. The campaigns may spend most of their time talking about taxes and jobs. But health care is where the election’s outcome will have the most immediate and powerful impact on how Americans live.

Abolishing Obamacare would eliminate subsidies for people buying insurance and rescind regulations requiring insurance companies to guarantee coverage and benefits (for instance, to people with preëxisting conditions). Romney’s proposed alternative is to give individuals a tax break when they buy insurance and to push them toward high-deductible insurance plans, which he believes will make them more rigorous and price-conscious in choosing doctors and treatments. Romney also wants to reform Medicare by encouraging more competition among private insurers. The details are skimpy, but the core principle is that unleashing the power of the free market will bring down costs and raise quality.

Mitt Romney simply cannot be trusted and cannot identify with the average ordinary American.

I would rather have 4 more years of President Obama than to have 8 years of Mr. Multiple Choice Mitt Romney.

I perceive Romney as a crony capitalist who will hurt the middle class.
