It’s like a bad re-run. A few legislators are trying to revive Arizona’s film production tax credit (SB 1170) that lapsed in 2011.
According to the last annual report on the effectiveness of the credit, in 2009 four media companies completed production on credit-approved projects. After taking into consideration the small bit of sales tax revenue the film generated while in production, the state paid out a net of just over $2 million in tax credits. That’s an average o...

American Indian students are more likely to live in poverty and face unemployment later in life. These children carry the burdens of geographic isolation and multi-generational poverty that are heavy to lift.
In my conversations with state leaders on ways to help students in chronically failing schools—ideas such as expanding eligibility for education savings accounts and allowing parents to petition to convert a failing school to a charter school—policymakers regularly c...

The Mother’s Health and Safety Act, HB 2838, was heard in the House Health and Human Services Committee last week.
One of the most powerful moments came when Representative Justin Pierce shared the story of his brother’s family, and how despite pressure from doctors, they chose life and now have a beautiful 3 year old son.
This is a must-see video for anyone in the life debate…
As bad as the Fast and Furious debacle is, there is another part of the Eric Holder story that deserves equal attention.
Namely –
Attorney General Eric Holder is a racialist. In fact, he is a professional racialist.
Note that I am not calling Holder a racist. That’s different. A racist is a person who believes there are significant differences in abilities or character among people of different races, attributes those differences directly to race, and almost always believes that his ...
I’ve never witnessed a hearing like the House Health and Human Services Committee on Wednesday. The 9-member committee was considering the CAP-supported Mother’s Health and Safety Act, HB 2838. This legislation would ban abortions after 20 weeks of a pregnancy. Without a doubt this bill would save the lives of preborn children because there were 210 abortions at 20 weeks or later in 2011 in Arizona. Planned Parenthood pulled out all the stops to block this bill from passing. After... |

I couldn’t believe what I watched yesterday. Three Republican legislators – who all hold themselves out as conservatives – voted in a committee hearing to continue granting print newspapers an exclusive monopoly on public notices. Reps Carl Seel, Jeff Dial, and Terri Proud all voted against HB 2403, which would have brought us into the modern era and permitted public notices to be posted on the internet instead of print newspaper...

The following testimony is by Lynne LaMaster, Editor of eNewsAZ regarding the shenanigans being played out by the Arizona Newspaper Association and its allies in opposition to HB 2403. (Sonoran Alliance supports this legislation.)
This entire experience has been very enlightening to me. I have learned far more than I ever imagined.
One of the most fascinating items I learned, is that according to the Newspaper organizations, this really isn’t about the money. It’s about their duty as “watc...
