UA journalism students to Tweet Tucson election results

My University of Arizona School of Journalism Reporting Public Affairs class will be Tweeting from the Democratic and Republican campaign parties tonight.

If you’re a Twitter user, you can follow their real-time news coverage by following the hashtag #tucsonelections.

Or, their varied Tweets will be aggregated here, in this blog post, this evening.

They will be tweeting from the parties, talking to campaign workers, city and party officials and the candidates, including reactions by all after the results are released at 8 p.m.

Because of the all-mail election, ballots have been collected by the City Clerk’s office for weeks. They are being unsealed and counted today, which means that rather than having to wait all evening for precincts to report in, the overwhelming majority of votes cast in the election will have been counted by 8 p.m.

Only ballots that arrived in the mail today, or that were dropped off at polling locations today, won’t be included in the count. That will matter only if any of the races are close.
