Brewer vows to take SB 1070 appeals to Supreme Court if necessary

by on Jul. 28, 2010, under Politics

STATEMENT BY GOVERNOR JAN BREWER

PHOENIX – “I am disappointed by Judge Susan Bolton’s ruling enjoining several provisions of “The Support Our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act” – SB 1070; though I am heartened by some findings – including the ban on sanctuary cities.

“This fight is far from over. In fact, it is just the beginning, and at the end of what is certain to be a long legal struggle, Arizona will prevail in its right to protect our citizens.  I am deeply grateful for the overwhelmingly support we have received from across our nation in our efforts to defend against the failures of the federal government.

“I have consulted with my legal counsel about our next steps. We will take a close look at every single element Judge Bolton removed from the law, and we will soon file an expedited appeal at the United States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit.

“For anyone willing to see it — the crisis is as clear as is the federal government’s failure to address it.

“The judge herself noted that the stash houses where smugglers hide immigrants from Mexico before bringing them into the country’s interior have become a fixture on the news in Arizona and that, ‘You can barely go a day without a location being found in Phoenix where there are numerous people being harbored.’”

“When I signed the bill on April 23rd, I said, SB 1070 – represents another tool for our state to use as we work to address a crisis we did not create and the federal government has actively refused to fix.  The law protects all of us, every Arizona citizen and everyone here in our state lawfully.  And, it does so while ensuring that the constitutional rights of ALL in Arizona are undiminished – holding fast to the diversity that has made Arizona so great.

“I will battle all the way to the Supreme Court, if necessary, for the right to protect the citizens of Arizona. Meanwhile, I also know we still have work to do in confronting the fear-mongers, those dealing in hate and lies and economic boycotts that seek to do Arizona harm.

“We have already made some progress in waking up Washington.  But the question still remains:  will Washington do its job, and put an end to the daily operations of smugglers in our nation, or will the delays and sidesteps continue?  I believe that the defenders of the rule of law will ultimately succeed with us in our demand for action.”

I think her aides need to tell her that her words might be used against her, she just backed up the Feds argument – it’s their job.

We MUST not allow any more socialists on the Supreme Court. NO Kagan.

    • leftfield

No more fascists on the SCOTUS, or in the AZ legislature.

i.e. I will pander to the real fear-mongers and continue to try to make a virtue out of hate and discrimination.  Keep sending in those checks, suckers”

Leftfield, how is enforcing our nations laws fear mongering? No other country is so lax in it’s boarder laws. Are the french, the UK, the Mexicans fear mongers? When does it become an issue? When 1 in 30 people are here illegally, like right now? How about when it’s 1 in 10, do we enforce our laws then? Do we stop 1 in 30 people from breaking immigration law, from committing identity theft, from driving illegally and uninsured. 1 in 30 seems like a big problem to me.

      • leftfield

How is spreading the lie that the Arizona desert is filled with headless bodies not fear mongering?

    • lordsidious

there is no hate nor any discrimination from our side marxist pig, only from your side who hang out with groups who entitle themselves with names like “The Race”, or to be more exact “la raza”. So whose side is more virtuous towards slapping that “race” card on the table whenever you’re in trouble or faced with a real issue? You. And you know what marxist jerk? I WILL keep sending in my check to people like Jan Brewer or anybody on our side. Whatever it takes to defeat you and uphold our laws and retain our American sovereignty and country. Mexico doesn’t get to decide our immigration and foreign policy bitch.

      • leftfield

I can clearly see that there is no anger or hate in your heart.

  • fraser007

Guess everybody who disagrees with leftfield is  fascist.

    • leftfield

Look at it this way, fraser: not everybody who disagrees with me is a fascist, but all fascists will disagree with me.  Does that clear it up at all?

  • j.l.

Leftfield-  “Hate…fearmongering.. discrimination….” Surprise!  When libtards can’t debate the issues, they revert to name-calling, using words such as.. (see above). Lefty, your’re slaying us with your debating skills. You must have been captain of your seventh grade debate team!

When libtards can’t debate the issues, they revert to name-calling…

I hope even you can see the delicious irony in your statement.

BTW – I do not identify as liberal.  I am a communist.

A sad cartoon in my opinion, hiding in a dark closet. “I’m a communist! Look at me! I’m a communist! Living in a free America, What a joke!

California is the harbinger of the future with K-12 schools from best to 48th as immigrants flooded in. They are now 48% Latino. Other resources are overloaded and state tens of billions in debt. To avoid a third world future, America must return to 250,000 legal yearly as pre-1965 Immigration Act. Stop illegals. http://www.BillionAmericans.com shows Census projection of 1.2 billion by 2100 on current course. With “Zero International Migration,” 377 million.  CAP IMMIGRATION.

California is the harbinger of our third-world future. K-12 schools have slid from best to 48th and are 48% Latino. Resources are overstressed. Tens of Billions in debt.
If we don’t want this for our nation, stop illegal immigration (40% overstay visas) and return legal immigration to under 250,000 – average pre-1965 law pushed through by Ted Kennedy. http://www.BillionAmericans.com shows Census projection of 1.2 billion by 2100 on current path. “Zero International Migration Series” is 377 million by 2100.  Endless new consumers overcome conservation.  CAP IMMIGRATION.

This statement is misleading and is intended to lead the reader to conclude that a drop in the quality of education in schools is directly related to the presence of Latino students.  It’s a racist statement; typical of the “plausible deniability” racism of the radical right.

      • andrew farley

        Geeze-Louise, more racism.

    Arizona;
We stand with you. Our respective States are being run down by the Federal Government to the point we will soon be States in name only. Our rights and their guarantees no longer mean anything to them, and so we must all pull together and support you in this as we are.
The Federal Government will not take this laying down, if you win, so does every other State and they are not  going to stop at any length to prevent that.
You are taking the lead in a very important battle, but you do not stand alone.
      Thanks,
         Alaska Mark

    The Constitution is not ideological
It is the Supreme law of the land
It was partially constructed to protect the rights of the minority

Sooner or later we all fall under its protection

I stand with the good Governor.  Why should we allow every Tom, Dick and Mary into our country?  I know no other country that allows this.  You can get into Mexico but unless you have papers you can’t get out.  Why do we have to worry about insulting any person here in our country who is not American?  If you don’t like it here go back to where you came from.  Don’t come here and demand rights.  You have none.  When in Rome—We don’t even take care of our own, yet we send zillions of dollars we don’t have putting an even greater demand on we the taxpayers, to other countries.  We fight a war killing and crippling our soldiers that no one wants or will ever change.  I think we should take care of our own and let the other countries worry about themselves.  If they want help, conform to our beliefs of God first, then country. The good Lord will fix it all if we just trust him and put him first.  Anyone out there agree?

  • Brenda

I stand with the good Governor.  Why should we allow every Tom, Dick and Mary into our country that doesn’t belong here?  Why?  I understand why Mexicans want to be here.  They live in deplorable conditions but let them apply legally, get a  job, pay taxes and conform to our ways and speak English!  I know no other country that allows anyone into their country without a ticket back to where they come from.  We just let anybody in, setting our citizens up for disaster. We don’t even take care of our own.  We have Americans living in horrible housing without food or insurance for medical care.  Let’s take care of our own and fix the problem.  We’re fighting a war we can’t win.  Those people have fought since the beginning of time.  If we put the good Lord first as it should be, the foundation for which our country was founded, it will all work out.  Unless we are able to oust the current administration our country is finished.  We will become the United States of China.  Anyone out there agree?

    • tuksonrider

I thought the “Good Lord” was a liberal. Do we become good Christians or do we cast the lambs to the slaughter. Which is it?

The US Constitution is one of the three most noble, pure-hearted declarations of mankindIt was written without ideological, religious, political or personal self interest in order to form a basis for government to rule and offer all citizens the pursue liberty without government restrictionsIt provides rights for minority’s as a safeguard against tyrannical rule from the majority         To accept only the articles of the Constitution that one agrees with is akin to i.e.:  a Christian accepting only the 10 Commandments that they wish to followThe Constitution is not a pick and chose proposition,The Immigration Issue is headed for the Supreme CourtIt is my hope that the Justices will follow their hearts about what is truly best for our Nation and decide this matter without ideological, religious, political or personal self interest.I hope we do not see a decision with qualifications attached stating this decision cannot be used or cited to determine future issues of law, for example the decision to stop counting ballots in the 2000 Presidential ElectionThe decision must be made with the best intentions of our Nation at stake. To do anything less would be to invite consequences that we all must live and die withTo not make this decision with the purest of heart would be a betrayal of Oaths taken to defend and uphold our beloved ConstitutionThe future of our Country is ultimately in the hands of our 9 JusticesI pray to G-d to give them the strength neededI leave everyone with this anonymous quoteNever argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience

True – I particularly like the parts where only males have rights but still they are kind enough to let slave-holding States have 3/5 a vote for the black slaves.
    A  masterpiece.
