The Arizona Heat wasted a good pitching performance by Desiree Serrano in a National Pro Fastpitch game against the Texas Thunder on Wednesday.
The Heat (5-8) could get only three hits off Christa Williams (5-0) in a 2-1 loss in League City, Texas. Texas got the winning run in the seventh inning on a single by Lindsay Gardner with no outs. Kristen Zaleski started the inning with a triple and scored on Gardner’s single.
The Heat tied the game in the top of the seventh with two outs. LaDonia Hughes singled and scored on a triple by April Valdez. Williams had a no-hitter for 5 1/3 innings that was ended by a single by Nichole Thompson.
Serrano (3-2) allowed nine hits, walked two and struck out two.
The teams play the second game of the four-game series tonight in League City. Friday and Saturday’s games will be played in Spring, Texas.
