Arizona’s new look

Our U.S. House delegation went from a GOP-heavy 6-2 to a 4-4 tie. We still have two Republican U.S. senators.

The House breakdown:

● 1st Congressional District: Republican Rick Renzi won a third term, defeating Democrat Ellen Simon in a bitterly contested race.

● 2nd Congressional District: Republican Trent Franks won a third term by a 3-to-2 margin.

● 3rd Congressional District: Republican John Shadegg easily defeated Democrat Herb Paine.

● 4th Congressional District: Democrat Ed Pastor routed Republican Don Karg.

● 5th Congressional District: Republican incumbent J.D. Hayworth, a supporter of security-only immigration reform, lost to Democratic challenger Harry Mitchell.

● 6th Congressional District: Republican Rep. Jeff Flake easily won a fourth term.

● 7th Congressional District: Democratic Rep. Raúl Grijalva won a third term.

● 8th Congressional District: Democrat Gabrielle Giffords won the seat being vacated by 22-year incumbent Jim Kolbe, a Republican.

Citizen Online Archive, 2006-2009

This archive contains all the stories that appeared on the Tucson Citizen's website from mid-2006 to June 1, 2009.

In 2010, a power surge fried a server that contained all of videos linked to dozens of stories in this archive. Also, a server that contained all of the databases for dozens of stories was accidentally erased, so all of those links are broken as well. However, all of the text and photos that accompanied some stories have been preserved.

For all of the stories that were archived by the Tucson Citizen newspaper's library in a digital archive between 1993 and 2009, go to Morgue Part 2
