Preparations are in full swing at Hi Corbett and TEP for spring training.

Pitchers and catchers report on Friday.

A week later, full squads report and Feb 28 is the opener: Colorado Rockies vs. Arizona Diamondbacks, 1:05 p.m. at TEP.

This could be the last time to catch the former World Series champs, the Chicago White Sox, in Tucson, but team execs aren’t saying that for sure.

And if the White Sox go, with no replacement, the Rockies will likely head out of Tucson soon after.

In a slim ray of hope for basebll fans, local business leaders pitched the idea of creating a regional sports authority to the City Council on Tuesday in hopes that it could save spring training here.
